Reddit Permaban for "Interphobia"

SpicyMoth · 03/08/2024 14:20

Woke up to find I've been perma-banned from a subreddit for "interphobia" apparently.... Didn't even know that was a thing?

It was re; the boxer in the Olympics and all I said was;

"You literally can't be a cis woman if you have XY chromosomes though... That's a male with a DSD."

In response to a thread that was titled "Logan went off calling a cis woman with XY chromosome a man"

To call this person a cis woman rather than male intersex by their own definitions would be the thing that's interphobic surely, right?? Because that would invalidate who they are, no?

Have I got this wrong somehow? o.o
I know it's reddit and kinda psycho over there, and objectively it doesn't really matter, but this absolutely floored me to read this afternoon and I'm now second guessing myself wondering if I am indeed the batshit crazy phobic one in this scenario :S

There is no such thing as logic for them over any of this.

theilltemperedclavecinist · 03/08/2024 15:01

Isn't a cis woman someone who's AFAB and okay with it? There's no inconsistency with them also being an XY individual with a DSD.

TWETMIRF · 03/08/2024 15:02

Intersex is an outdated and misleading term anyway so using it in a phobia way just shows a lack of understanding and care about people with DSDs.

Well, to add more ridiculous twists to the brain-melting grammatical constructs necessary to support the ideology, AFAB doesn't mean the sex you actually are at birth, merely what the doctor specified on your documentation - even if incorrect.

There isn't really an expression in their vocabulary for someone who believes themselves to be the sex they really are.

This has been the focus of much of the discussion about Khelif recently, people saying he's a cis woman because he was incorrectly determined to be female by the doctor, and still asserts himself to he female.

The inconsistency would be the fact that the individual is XY I'd have thought?

As regardless of what that person was "assigned" (hate that term personally but I suppose for cases of DSD's it applies) their XY male-ness is in contrast to that.

For argument's sake I could've been "assigned" male at birth in spite of my female body and female chromosomes, but that doesn't mean I actually am male, and if I'd have hypothetically grown up to "feel" male, that wouldn't make me a cis male as far as I understand it because I'd still have a female body and chromosomes - At least that's how I've understood it anyway :S

@SpicyMoth , I'm not banned yet, testing my luck on a few different subs.

When the question of cis or trans identities has arisen I've just stated that identity isn't relevant to the discussion to a person's suitability to compete against women.

There's reasonable discussion about it on r/stupidpol, which is a Marxist anti-identity politics sub if you want to take a look. Quite a few people quoting the Reduxx tweets too.

I'll check it out, tysm for the suggestion! <3

No worries! Also the r/blockedandreported sub for the Jesse Singal podcast has been good.

Both have seen a bit of TRA infiltration recently, so tread carefully.

Utterly ridiculous, all of it!
Its like Dungeons and Dragons on bad acid, they never really let it go.

It's annoying isn't it. I got permabanned (again) today, for saying about Luca Hamori:

"Well done to her for protesting against these males in women's sport."

Weirdly it was a ban for "harassment", which makes no sense.

Reddit is a male-dominated cesspit of a website and I'm not sure why I keep going back.

Which sub did that? If you get perma-banned can you get back on with a different account?

GreenUp · 04/08/2024 16:28

Reddit is insane on this topic.

The Scotland sub had a 1000+ post on this topic where a TRA somehow managed to post by making it about JK Rowling being a Scotland resident. The whole thread was a bunch of men slagging off JK Rowling and calling her a bigot. The misogyny on Reddit is so disgusting. See also the Olympics subreddit.
