Discussion (well sort of) on their policy relating to access to the changing rooms at the local leisure centre.

The Chair (Liberal Democrat councillor Rosie Dawson) seems unaware that sex is a protected characteristic under the law and that the Equality Act does not give men who identify as female the right to access women’s spaces.

This. Not even if they have a GRC.

Dumbledoreslemonsherbets · 31/07/2024 10:38

Well done Andrew Doyle for yet again not letting people in positions of authority get away with throwing women under the bus. I hope there are some consequences for this abuse of power and misinterpretation of the EA.

Igmum · 31/07/2024 11:06

What a dreadful chair. And that silencing is probably being replicated many times over in councils across the country. Thou shalt not speak ill of anything trans. Please please tell me this is coming to an end. I was impressed by the questions and the questioners. All courteous calm and factual.

Toseland · 31/07/2024 11:19

Well done to those women Flowers

Helleofabore · 31/07/2024 11:32

That was a remarkable session for many reasons.

C4tintherug · 31/07/2024 12:07

Wow. Not once does she consider the women and girls as vulnerable people.
Im sure I read on here that not one trans identifying male has been attacked in a male single sex place but yet when trans identifying men are allowed into single sex female spaces- suddenly we have several instances of assault. Not to mention the fact that women just don’t want be undressed around men. We. Say. No.

I can’t wait to see the written statement of apology that will no doubt be forthcoming once she has consulted legal advice 😃

Boiledbeetle · 31/07/2024 13:46

That was an interesting watch. Wonder how many complaints they are going to receive.

Got to love the tourettes guy. He said what everyone else without tourettes was thinking!

DancingNotDrowning · 31/07/2024 13:50

that was extraordinary to watch, the chair was appalling and whilst I wouldn’t have called her a cunt the application of the word “sanctimonious” was spot on.

I also had a little chuckle as the councillor claimed his own protected status whilst shouting at her

all three women were brave to ask their questions, but the first woman was outstanding. Brava!!

I found it amusing the chair was hiding, wrongly behind what the equality act says about vulnerable men in the women's changing rooms in order to shut up the women without realising that the gentleman with Tourettes was actually covered by the Equality Act.

Rather than having a go about what she was hearing she really, in her inclusive little world she's in, should have just sat there and made adjustments/ allowances for his uncontrollable outburst due to his disability.

Shows that their inclusiveness only involves men who want to be women. Fuck everyone else.

Ramblingnamechanger · 31/07/2024 23:18

I imagine this is not the only local council that is having to deal with angry women reclaiming our rights. It was handled apallingly and again I am happy I spoiled my vote. Reading the room is crucial.

Dumbledoreslemonsherbets · 31/07/2024 23:22

The chair reminded me of Dolores Umbridge, though slightly less charming

SirChenjins · 31/07/2024 23:44

That Chair should be taken to task over her appalling lack of manners, her utter disdain for the women exercising their legal right to ask questions and for her ignorance re the act. A shameful example of third rate politics and someone who should not hold the position of Chair.

quantumbutterfly · 01/08/2024 00:15

reminds me of ..'Wednesbury unreasonableness'… It applies to a decision which is so outrageous in its defiance of logic or of accepted moral standards that no sensible person who had applied his mind to the question to be decided could have arrived at it

Hepwo · 01/08/2024 00:40

She was warned it's going viral and it has.

LeFromage · 01/08/2024 06:26

Wow the Chair’s day job is a mental health nurse. What a thoroughly ignorant young lady and so belligerently proud of her ignorance. There’s only one vulnerable group and she’s their self appointed saviour. She is Chair for a full year. I hope the council gets legal advice or at least reads Monaghan KC’s legal opinion.

SirChenjins · 01/08/2024 07:57

A mental health nurse?? Bloody hell - I pity her patients and their families and carers.

kiterunning · 01/08/2024 08:23

That was an incredible watch.
I imagine (and hope) that similar meetings are taking place all over the country.
Fantastic women ( and men)
Daylight is breaking.

TWETMIRF · 01/08/2024 08:58

Shocking behaviour. Public participation is an important part of council meetings. In our council we rarely get anyone wanting to speak but we always let them have their say and don't insist on having the questions in advance. They get longer than the time limit too as long as they aren't taking the piss. It seems that the public are an inconvenience for this chair, rather than who they are there to serve

GeraniumJenny · 01/08/2024 09:07

Maybe someone should tell the NMC how she’s bringing the profession into disrepute?

No I'm not a fan of cancellation for views on either side. Having said that, if I were her manager viewing the clip I would be concerned if she had children within her remit and was ignoring the Cass review. She comes across as ridiculously dogmatic and the power seems to have gone to her head.

Yes, she is forgetting she is there to serve the public, not to dominate and rule over them.

She certainly likes the sound of her own voice.
DH says "God gave you two ears and one mouth, so you can listen twice as much as you speak".

A mental health nurse? 😮
