Sandy Brindley sounded extremely uncomfortable in that interview.

Sandy Brindley sounded extremely uncomfortable in that interview.

And so Sandy should.

loveyouradvice · 25/07/2024 12:18

Yes but... still quite clear trans need to be involved and are part of the community we serve... and Im assuming she means TW not TM, who of course should be part of the community of women they serve....

Helleofabore · 25/07/2024 12:26

I think that if your policy is that you are inclusive as I believe the policy for Scotland is, then it makes it clear that trans people should be included on staff. It becomes an issue if no female single sex spaces and services are offered and if a male making policies makes a centre hostile to female people, staff included, who support single sex provisions. As in the case of Wadhwa.

And I say muttering to myself, anyone who had seen Wadhwa's contributions prior to hiring would have seen the red flag behaviour when it came to women's needs.

HappierTimesAhead · 25/07/2024 12:34

Thanks for posting.
She does not answer the question about who is running ERCC at the moment.
When she finds the questioning too difficult she gets arsey about being asked them!
I'm also not convinced she has represented Roz Adams accurately but that would be for Roz to say I guess.

HappierTimesAhead · 25/07/2024 12:37

It's also really disingenuous to say it isn't about trans people being involved (running!) Rape Crisis Centres and it is about survivors right to choose who is involved because the two are inextricably linked in this case.
And the assertion that it's all about survivors and centred around them is a departure from past messaging which seemed to be much more about general 'inclusivitity' over and above the rights of female women survivors. I wish she had been asked about Cameron Downing

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 25/07/2024 13:05

"Could you not have foreseen all of this?" 😂

Disentangling who the service employs from how they offer the service and who they offer it to might not be easy but Rape Crisis Scotland will need to get their heads round it and insist their members either do it properly or apply the single-sex exemptions that ERCC should have used in the first place.

Sandy Brindley's comments were not far off what I remember of what Roz Adams said, that she was pleased at first to be part of an "inclusive" service.

And the assertion that it's all about survivors and centred around them is a departure from past messaging

It is. And that is good news, and it's a real success for Roz Adams. I'm very grateful to Roz Adams and I also hope this will make a big difference to @iamsarah 's case.

guinnessguzzler · 25/07/2024 13:18

What an absolute shambles. And entirely predictable.

RantyMcRanterton · 25/07/2024 13:31

Thank you for the link.

AnnaMagnani · 25/07/2024 18:30

Thank-you for the link.

She absolutely falls apart doesn't she? At a point near the end it sounds like she's started crying.

If you are a CEO for a campaigning organization, this is the sort of question you should be able to answer confidently.

Sandy Brindley sounded extremely uncomfortable in that interview.

It was uncomfortable listening to how uncomfortable she was. I don't feel sorry for her at all mind you she should feel bloody uncomfortable, I bet she needed a stuff drink after that!

INeedAPensieve · 25/07/2024 20:00

Is Mridul going to be sacked? Are they going to apologise for allowing a convicted criminal (sex abuser and rapist Cameron Downing) into their service to do GROUP sessions with raped women????

Sorry but I'm just still fizzing about it all! Beggars belief....

*Just editing to say I realise he wasn't convicted at that point when he used ERCC but he is now, and it was after his threatening messages so it was still a scandal they allowed him access in the first place.

Sacked? You think this bunch of shameless grifters have any integrity or decency at all? Wahdu will only only leave via being dragged off stage left with a shepherds crook.

That's a very pleasing image!

Igmum · 25/07/2024 21:57

I was cheering on that interviewer! It's about time we had some normal journalism on this topic. Good for her 👏

And Rape Crisis Scotland- 🤦‍♀️

older posters may remember one of les Dawson's more outre characters-namely Cosmo Smallpiece, whose every appearance ended with him being dragged off stage in said manner.

As soon as I read the name his speccy image came to mind. Knickers, knackers, knockers!I

So apt!

unwashedanddazed · 26/07/2024 10:53

The sound of Brindley's distress did not move me at all. All I could think of was that meeting of survivors that she took a TRA academic to, without informing the women who she was, to pick over and dismiss their concerns.

Sandy Brindley is despicable and has caused a great deal of distress to many women. Employees and DV survivors alike.

Same @unwashedanddazed she showed no compassion for the feelings of rape survivors at all at that meeting.
