Another way to look at this is that this way any male person’s answers can be separated out through the segmentation of the survey. On-line surveys where there is no control over who answers is going to have problems. Giving people enough scope to give honest answers rather than them just answering they are ‘female’ when they are not, may be the way forward here.
In saying that, of course we know that a sub group of male people have appropriated female people’s health conditions for their validation. How many have come onto social media to tell us they have ‘periods’ and now menopause, and they don’t even understand what it is they are appropriating? It is deliberate and it is fucked up to appropriate menstrual issues and it trivializes these just when the issues were starting to get serious attention.
I remember being dismissed in my twenties for severe cramping and for pre menstrual symptoms by a young male doctor in Sydney who effectively told me that he thought I was trying to get a prescription for Valium or Prozac. I certainly have a very harsh view of male people who publish their distress videos and posts about what seems to be their gastro-intestinal and emotional issues that they call ‘periods’. And I have an even worse view of the doctors who cycle those male people’s hormones and tell them they are replicating ‘periods’ for them. Fuck off with that!
But yes, Vic govt is a bin fire of credibility over the past few years. I don’t look forward to that ‘unsaid’ campaign being topped for ludicrousness, but I suspect it will be before long. I am not sure this campaign has edged into the lead though. The ‘unsaid’ was sinister. Absolutely chilling.
