I tried to access her stream, and my computer seized up so I posted in case it had happened to anyone else. No-one commented, but just in case someone else does meet a problem, i'm posting the aftermath. After a night unplugged it was still crashed on KJK's site so I booked it in the local fixers. Took it there, the guy plugged it in and lo, it started, and could move away from KJK. I've now cleared the history.
But, all is not well, because my McAfee software has vanished, bar a couple of icons which don't connect to anything and I now have windows Defender popping up instead. Not happy.

Your local computer-fixer does not seem to have done a very thorough job.

You can check if a site is downloading malware or viruses by using an online tool like this:

https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/

Both letwomenspeak and partyofwomen sites come up clean.

So if you have acquired some nasties on your computer it would be before you visited whichever site of KJK's you were on when your computer froze.

Deleting your history does nothing except prevent you from seeing what sites you visited that might have caused a problem.

I would suggest you post in Tech Tips or better still take your computer to another computer-fixer?

Have you been accessing kiwifarms?

Treaclewell · 23/07/2024 12:11

I have not. And nothing else obviously iffy.
The fixer switched on in front of me, and since the presenting problem seemed resolved, we didn't proceed to check beyond that.
I am currently using the device to copy files from storage which stopped during a power cut and didn't automatically restart to a hard drive, which will take a day. They'd had that too, and when they switched on, it did, so nothing was scanned.
New Computer guy in same establishment.
I've downloaded AVG, and oddly, as it completed, McAfee popped up to say it was OK. But I can't get at it myself. Have to wait until copying complete for more.

What's your point @Treaclewell ? Are you implying that KJK is somehow infecting your computer?

MiriamMay · 23/07/2024 20:13

Are you trying to deter people from accessing KJK’s and POW’s content/websites etc?

My point is that I visited that site and something went wrong. I thought it might affect others. I therefore posted as a warning. Not trying to stop people using KJK's site, but to do so carefully because a third party might be up to no good. I obviously couldn't communicate directly with the site for it to check.
I have now run Stinger on my other laptop and a full McAfee scan, and that's clear.

It says something about society when an innocent posting of information about a negative event is viewed as the action of a bad actor.

You and your computer guy seem very uneducated about computers. Clearing history will do fuck all if you have a virus. Anti virus programmes usually do fuck all against malware and adware.

McAfee and Norton are not considered to be great antivirus programmes - very bloated and slow.

A lot of people watch her videos including those who want to smear her. If her video had caused a virus to download onto computers you can bet your last penny those people would be all over the Internet about it. But it's just you. What other sites have you or partner been visiting?

EDIT - re reading to your first post it looks like computer guy hasn't actually fixed your computer. Are you sure he isn't just identifying as a computer guy Shock

No, she’s simply trying to warn people that there might be malware there.

Malware can be a very serious issue, and given the controversy around KJK it’s entirely possible that bad actors might attempt to sabotage her sites by hacking into them and installing malware in order to cause her reputational damage.

Myalternate · 24/07/2024 08:05

@Treaclewell thank you for the info, it always pays to be vigilant.
@Zita60 👍 Exactly

Where to start with answering that bit of superior stuff?

  1. I asked for the computer to be got going again, which it was, not a major overhaul. Should have, but was dealing with a post power cut situation, in which the KJK site might have been implicated. I was watching as it came up, and it immediately cleared so thought it was OK.
  2. It's a firm I have often used, was referred to by someone, don't remember who, when the guy the school used packed up - he was approved by the county. I have not had any problems before, and they've been in business, with businesses. a good while. So if you're implying some untrained lad in his mum's basement, not at all. This was a new guy, though, but I don't think the startup guy would employ someone not to his standards.
  3. I know the clearing history won't deal with malware already in the machine. It will deal with the wetware which might inadvertently connect to the source in ignorance.
  4. Since I am obviously out of whatever loop decided that McAfee and Norton are no longer fit for purpose, perhaps you might recommend something else from your extensive knowledge? I seem to recall there was a problem with Kaspersky, and I only know the company the county had a corporate arrangement with, which covered the school beyond that. Is Sophos a) any good, and b) available for private users?

It is so easy to rile people in this field. How to explain that a password of 'cat' alternating with 'dog' is not very secure without talking down to the teacher concerned, or to point out that the deputy head's screen is blank because she hasn't plugged the monitor in. You may assume stupidity, but it does no good to show it.

I'm not going to respond to you. You failed when you added this part in your OP 😂

I've now cleared the history.

UtopiaPlanitia · 24/07/2024 11:57

Treacle I’m sorry to hear you’re having computer woes.

I’ve been using MalwareBytes on my computers for years and I find it very useful in combination with the MalwareBytes web browser tool that warns about and blocks sites hosting malware. Have a look and see if it might suit your needs:

www.malwarebytes.com/for-home/products

LittleMissViper · 24/07/2024 12:02

So the problems started after a power cut? Sounds like some files that were mid-write got corrupted, which might include internet cache files. By clearing the history/cache, it would have forced the files to be redownloaded. Which is why removing the history/cache seems to have worked. Nothing at all to do with which site you were accessing.

OldCrone · 24/07/2024 12:03

I use Malwarebytes as well. The basic version is free.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/07/2024 12:11

Can I ask why you assumed it was due to KJK's site and not any other stuff you had done with your computer?

Treaclewell · 24/07/2024 12:44

The power cut was in the middle of the night when not in use. It affected the storage device. It did not happen then I was on MN and followed the link to KJK. It was as soon as I went on KJK that it seized up, so it seemed likely that it was involved. Other sites visited, here, gmail, possibly Next Door, unlikely the Guardian and BBC, 'cos I do those after here, and not often. Possibly the bank and credit card. I expect they are safe, or if not, news would have been broadcast Don't do a lot online really.
Purple - you're rude, but I'm sure you know that. I asked, specifically of you, since you seem to have the information, for a recommendation, and you respond with a put down.
Utopia - like the Martian ref in your name! And the others who have suggested Malwarebytes - I'll look at it.

lcakethereforeIam · 24/07/2024 12:53

I hope you get it sorted OP. I choose to believe you were just posting a good faith warning. It wouldn't surprise me if GC sites like KJK and MN are targets for malware, I'd be more surprised if they weren't. TRAs do seem to be over represented in IT so there are probably loads who have the motivation and the knowledge to try crap like this. They only have to get lucky once.

Treaclewell · 24/07/2024 14:08

Probably Malwarebytes. It found something missed and got rid of it. But AVG spotted incoming and then disappeared before I could do something.

Personally I'm just pissed that my chance to rid the world of the scourge that is the world wide web was scuppered in 2000.

I'm aiming for 2025 to actually go through, successfully, with my cunning plan
