Which union?

I'm an academic and I'm currently moving jobs. I've not been a member of UCU since the pandemic, largely because I worked at one of the institutions which has frequently graced these boards in dispatches and it was clear they were only interested in protecting one set of beliefs.

I'm now moving to Further Education rather than Higher, my role will be newish and it's a new geographical region for me too. Which union is best for teachers in FE?

I've always been a union member until all this blatant rug-pulling of women's rights and I would like to be again, but I want to know my fees are going to an organisation that truly supports feminists (not just the glittery new kind).

Affinity Union without a doubt.

An independent union, not affiliated to any party, and big on supporting academic freedom.

Thanks I'll look into them

What professions do Affinity cover? I’ve never heard of them before (never joined a union, union membership was banned by my employer when I started work)

Looking into Affinity now - and SEEN - what about them? Although I've not heard back from them despite going through their initial process!

I'm going to check out which unions seem active in my college once I start in September and I'll make a decision then.
