Tony Blair had to tell Starmer what a woman is

The only reason Starmer changed his mind … yet again .. is because Blair said “a woman is a woman and a man is a man “!
This man is now prime minister .. I just can’t get my head around it all

Some men can’t bear to be corrected, or shown to be wrong, by women. Starmer’s obstinacy in refusing to apologise to Rosie Duffield gives the strong impression that he is one of this type of men.

ticktickticktickBOOM · 09/07/2024 00:46

well he's clearly damned either way

glad he's changing his mind personally - at least it shows he isn't stubborn or a sheep and he's finally starting to see the wood for the trees. There are still millions who point blank refuse

SammyScrounge · 09/07/2024 02:28

And our new foreign secretary thinks a man can grow his own cervix. The UK is becoming a laughing stock.

Exactly.
He's also stated that he understands the difference between biological sex and the need for women only spaces.
He gets it.

No. It's not.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 09/07/2024 08:09

Not what?

Floisme · 09/07/2024 08:18

I think that, if Starmer really did get it, he would be agreeing that the meaning of 'sex' and 'single sex spaces' in the Equality Act needs clarifying.

heldinadream · 09/07/2024 08:20

Starmer has been massively focused on getting into power and being ready and prepared for power. I was pissed off with him before too, but if he's really got it now I'm not going to hold it against him, nor complain that Blair was the one to convince him.
I am very impressed with the apparent change of culture being brought in by the new government. Fuck sake it's a bloody hard job. I'm now fully prepared to give them a fresh start.

heldinadream · 09/07/2024 08:26

Coincidentally Tony Blair just being interviewed on the Today prog and this just came up and he was faultlessly clear. Hooray!

Is Tony Blair in the government? No?

Annaliese Dodds and Bridget Phillipson are.

Who do you think will be making the actual decisions?

EasternStandard · 09/07/2024 08:34

Just heard a bit this morning. Still talking about biological sex and being supportive to gender

But no answer on how. Why do journalists not ask a simple question

@heldinadream I don’t know he was clear on outcome. What would it look like in practise?

UpThePankhurst · 09/07/2024 08:35

It is exceptionally grating that Starmer was only prepared to listen to another bloke explain what a woman is, having made it very clear that women themselves didn't get a say in it as far as he was concerned.

Waiting now with interest to discover if our new PM has integrity or whether he lied his head off in the last days of the election campaign. And how he then intends to justify that.

Agreed. His 'change of heart' was a cynical ploy to get votes

China and Russia are definitely sniggering

Christinapple · 09/07/2024 09:08

Tony Blair? I don't think he's particularly liked tbh (something to do with foreign country a while back) and his opinion isn't going to count for much now.

It won’t last. He’ll get his feet under the desk, get comfortable and back track. Dark times ahead for women and girls.

It’s odd he’s being wheeled out again

Plus he created the GRA so all this I’m surprised this is an issue is a bit much

He caused the mess

Two of the most homophobic and sexually backward nations in the world?
who cares what they think.

Politicians may be getting seriously muddled up about trans/womens rights but at least they aren't criminalising people for their sexuality

Absolutely.

I have a sense of impending doom that any gains recently made with the Cass report, etc will be lost as ministers such as Anneliese Dodds are appointed.

Helloworld56 · 09/07/2024 09:21

The Labour leader, speaking to listeners on Nicky Campbell’s BBC Radio 5 Live show, also said that in his view “a woman is an adult female, so let’s clear that one up”

Where's the problem? He does know what a woman is. Ridiculous to assume anything else.

I don't think what he knows or what he thinks is the point any more. What I'm interested in is what he does now that he has the power to make things happen.

And absolutely no way am I giving him a fresh start. We need to hold those feet to the fire from the very beginning - I have no doubt Stonewall will already be doing so.

What does that even mean? We're already being held up as a beacon of stability compared with the mess the French and the US are in at the moment. Boring, sensible government. At last.
The Russians are probably gutted that their assets in the Tory party are out of power.

I didn’t understand how NOT. When you have grown ups in top positions wittering on about gendered souls and for some women have penises…

I agree. This shower are so weird.
i still can’t understand how all this is happening. Thank goodness JK Rowling is pushing forward and pushing them back 🫶
