  1. When an organisation (yes, I'm looking at you Tesco, but so many others too) listens to one individual or lobby group, it has to listen to representatives of all the other protected characteristics and support them all equally.
  2. Single sex provision to be mandatory. No playing with words.
  3. When housing is built, the appropriate infrastructure must go with it (schools, sports facilities, access to doctors & dentists, road improvements, meeting rooms, libraries, green spaces, etc).
  4. If a house builder gets planning permission & local approval by promising to build a certain number of affordable homes, if they then declare it uneconomical to build said affordable homes, planning permission is automatically withdrawn.

Reform of the planning system, and the way developers 'game' the system is well overdue.

I'll add a couple:

  • 'None of the Above' option on ballot papers
  • State funding of political parties. It's controversial, I know. But the present system of funding just leads to corruption. I'd greatly reduce the permitted amount for individual and corporate donations. One possibility is an option on ballot papers where everyone gets a separate vote on which party to fund (including none). That gets taken in to account along with some formula based on number of seats held (and possibly other factors).

Illegal to knowingly lie or refuse to answer if asked by an authorised person what your biological sex is. Or to knowingly lie to anyone about your biological sex if you're going to perform an intimate medical or cosmetic procedure.

JellySaurus · 07/07/2024 18:06

Repeal the GRA.

Give the CMS more teeth to require absent parents to contribute a sensible amount towards their children's upbringing.

Edited

I see Blair has had another go today with his ID cards. Tbh the gender ideologists risk forcing this to biometrics to keep determined male people out of spaces needed by females.

Sloejelly · 07/07/2024 18:11

Gender Recognition Repeal Act

Equality Amendment Act removing Gender reassignment as a protected characteristic and making female single sex spaces a requirement.

Passport and other official ID act making it a requirement for sex to be sex

Banning teaching of gender ideology in law and making transitioning children (including social transitioning) a criminal offence.

And the infrastructure has to be built first. Too many times developers say they will build x,y and z and then piss off as soon as they've put the houses up.

lonelywater · 07/07/2024 19:51

jail time for water companies shoving shit in our rivers. Oh, and the death penalty for shoplifting-that would sort the fuckers out.

Whatwouldscullydo · 07/07/2024 19:57

I'd like to see it made compulsory that companies remain politically neutral.

It's their job to sell clothes, shoes, food, etc or provide a service. Not to impose views on clients/customers.

Wattnow · 07/07/2024 19:58

I'll add - any charity, NGO, company, CIC or any other organisation in receipt of public money to be subject to FOI

EHCPerhaps · 07/07/2024 20:08

For children to be treated equally in terms of their existing legal rights to education. Due to the overloaded system that the Tories have not funded properly, a lot of kids with SEND have been missing years of their education waiting for a suitable school place that meets their needs.

yomellamoHelly · 07/07/2024 20:11

Men have to pay for their children. Take it out of their pay packet directly.

Yes. Except I'd be happier with no EQA and a return to the race, disability and sex discrimination legislation we had before. Maternity, breastfeeding etc would all be covered under sex anyway. We were sold a pup.

KnickerlessParsons · 07/07/2024 20:24

All new houses to be fitted with a wind turbine and/or solar panels and/or a ground source heat pump when they are being built, and lots of financial help to convert existing houses.

Sussurations · 07/07/2024 20:26

Planning: if a builder doesn’t build the affordable homes they are supposed to, there is a massive financial penalty paid to the local council.

Second homes: owners pay 4x council tax to offset the damage to the local community.

Food: food packaging for snack foods like chocolate and crisps has to display the total number of calories in the packet, not just the amount per 100g or per portion. Foods which contain certain ingredients such as unsustainably sourced palm oil, cotton oil, trans fats etc have to have it printed on the packaging in big letters.

Utilities: if they have not met certain standards, such as not filling the sea with sewage, they cannot pay dividends or bonuses until they have managed not to do so for say five years and their executive pay is tied to some kind of standard such as not exceeding MPs’ pay or something like that. not sure how it would work legally but I very much hope the new govt is going to take radical steps on this stuff.

GRA: repeal it

I could go on all day but these are some of my saner ideas.

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 07/07/2024 20:30

All new housing must have storage! 60s council / private housing is a world away from today's "standards".

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 07/07/2024 21:20

i would also add
1 any utility company digging up the road would have to pay the local council a proper amount for the road surface to be made good properly, not do a shit half arsed job leading to potholes which damage people's cars and cause accidents.

2 non-highways roadworks (not those done in an emergency, stuff like private driveways or housing estate access roads) would be subject to a fine if not completed on time which would go into further funding road repairs

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 07/07/2024 22:26

I'm warming to my topic now.

houses of parliament reform

1 subsidised cafe totally gone. The price they pay for food is absolutely incredible. At 90 odd grand they can pay for their own lunch like the rest of us. They could try being a police officer with nowhere to heat up a meal on a 12 hr shift, no time to eat a meal and all the relaxation areas removed plus members of the public hassling them for daring to go and buy a Tesco meal deal to eat in the car.
2 no expenses for maintaining a second home in a constituency. You live where you represent or you don't get to be an MP for the area. Plus if you want a second home you can pay for it like the rest of us
3 ridiculous payments for accomodation etc in London will be replaced with a Houses of Parliament uni dorm-type set up for MPs that need to stay overnight with bedrooms, offices etc a bit like a premier inn with cooking facilities etc. If on commons business this is free of charge. You still pay for your food.
4 sliding scale of wages commensurate with experience, you don't get to go in at the top just like the rest of us when starting a new job
5 and don't get me started on the amount the Lords can claim for doing nothing

ButtermilkBeetroot · 07/07/2024 22:48

Along similar lines, I'd like to see the seat of parliament moved around the country, every 6 months or so and I'd like MPs to have to use public transport to reach it.

Pay rises should be in line with the rest of the civil service, if we're frozen for years at 0 or 1% so should they be.

KitchenDancefloor · 07/07/2024 22:49

Planning: no new housing on agricultural land until half the country's golf courses have been built on first

KitchenDancefloor · 07/07/2024 23:05

Environment: water company bosses to celebrate the first day of summer each year with a televised wild swim in water they are responsible for. No hazmat suits allowed.

KitchenDancefloor · 07/07/2024 23:09

Education: education ministers to spend a whole week in a classroom. One day each in nursery, years 2, 6, 9 and 12 should do. Consecutive full days. Breaks to be taken with staff. Planning and marking to be done overnight.

KitchenDancefloor · 07/07/2024 23:11

Society: dog licences to be reinstated. Lifetime bans on licences for cruelty, neglect, having a dangerously out of control dog or for not picking up poo 💩

KitchenDancefloor · 07/07/2024 23:13

Planning/environment: all developments must include mature trees. Developers responsible for their care for the next 20 years

KitchenDancefloor · 07/07/2024 23:24

Culture: anyone describing themselves as an influencer has a 12 month internet ban for each infraction

Thelnebriati · 07/07/2024 23:28

If a group or facility states it is for women it should be single sex.
Update the Equality Act to say that organisations are obliged to offer single sex groups/facilities instead of saying they are permissible.
