While on maternity leave I've been using my local library a lot. I discovered that you can do purchase requests. I requested Material Girls by Kathleen Stock, really just to see what would happen. I live in Scotland and my council area is the kind of place where everyone has a rainbow lanyard and pronouns in their emails. I work in the local NHS which is the same and so am very quietly gender critical. Anyway within weeks I got a note that it was available for collection! Went to the library and the librarian had to go and get it down from a face out display on the shelves. She told me that individual librarians dont get to choose stock (not sure how it is chosen!) so they're very reliant on members making requests for "the more interesting stuff" . I'm quite pleased and now wondering what else I should ask them to buy...
