Why I'm voting Conservative

Firstly, let me say, it pains me to admit this because I’m not a Tory. I’ve always looked upon myself as a slightly left of centre, live and let live, community based, floating voter. But the more I look at this election campaign, the more I’ve realised that, to me, this is a one issue election. Women’s rights.
Starmer has been asked countless times about women’s private spaces, on radio and on TV. Each time he’s done everything he can to avoid answering the question. In any one of these interviews, he could have made his position clear, particularly on that phone in last week where the caller Jane said she was sick of the twaddle that comes out of his mouth.
Now he’s being quoted in the Telegraph as having said that biological males should not use women’s public toilets. This is a typical move by a politician. Leave it until the last minute, so he can’t be quizzed on what he actually means and then twist and deny it afterwards. I don’t trust him.
I don’t want to vote Conservative. After Partygate and the chaos caused by that idiot Liz Truss, they need a good kicking. But they’re the only party that have consistently come down on the side of women. If Labour get in and shift the gender landscape, the changes they make could be irreparable.
In the Victorian era, they didn’t build public toilets for women. It was a way of keeping women chained to the home. This is the direction we’re heading in if we don’t stand up and put a stop to it. And I don’t want to look back on this in years to come and realise I could have voted against this shift, but I let my political views get in the way.

Oh and let's not forget COVID and all those who couldn't visit dying relatives or go to their funerals whilst the Tories parties oh and Brexit!!

Never forgot the utter piss take of partying during lockdown when we couldn't even go to funerals or visit elderly relatives in care homes.

I am voting for the conservatives and for women and girls everywhere, yes!

Voting for conservatives "for women and girls everywhere" is just utterly fucked up back to front thinking, sorry
It's the complete opposite! They're no friend of women and girls when it comes to rights.

Workoutinthepark · 04/07/2024 12:45

What a crock of shite OP 😄as if every other politician on earth is called Keir Starmer. There's the Lib Dems, greens, etc. You have options.

If you're a Brexit loving person who thinks refugees should be sent to Rwanda and the Westminster COVID parties were a good old laugh then own it at least.

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 04/07/2024 12:48

As has been said above, a strong opposition is good for democracy.

One party with a super majority is not.

I voted Conservative today for the first time ever in a cons/Lib dem constituency.

In the past I would have gone LD but theres no way I can since they're so batshit over this issue - and it does bleed into everything else.

Single sex spaces and women's rights are relevant to health, education, social care, economy and employment to make just a few.

It's not voting on 'just one issue' because it affects nearly everything.

I have not voted for a Tory government (and nor do I agree with everything that happened under this one - that's false equivalence). I have voted for my MP. I want someone who will do a reasonable job of representing me in the House of Commons, and that's not going to be the batshit lib dem who told me off for being mean when I emailed them questions about single sex spaces.

Unless an awful lot of people change their minds at the last minute, we will still get a Labour government. But hopefully enough pissed off women will ensure some seats remain Tory so we don't end up with the shit show that would be Labour government with Lib Dem opposition.

Edited

See this is just nonsense. You can pick the best of a bad bunch.

Voting for someone does not equal agreeing with every single one of their policies (even MPs disagree within parties, that's why they have the whips, to ensure they vote with the party on key issues).

It means you think they're the best available option.

Two very different things.

Lots of us do care.
When you had to look through care home windows at your grandparents as you weren't allowed in - you might not care that they were gathering to party when the rest of us were getting fined for stuff like sitting on a park bench etc
It's sickening that people couldn't see their dying relatives or could only leave the house to go for their "daily walk" or "essential shop" when they were drinking and dancing together.

I’m sorry but I could never in a million years bring myself to vote conservative after this complete shit show. I get your point but I would go with the Lib Dems, the Green Party, anyone but this bunch of clowns.

Could not have said it better, thanks.

I voted cons. They're still the least worse option from my perspective.

"Hadn't had a birthday cake" 🙄😂
Brilliant minimising there lol.

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 04/07/2024 13:08

Voting for an MP of a particular party does not mean you condone every thing that party has ever done.

Obviously.

My current (probably former) MP wasn't invited to any parties. If Boris was standing in my constituency I would burn down my house with my vote inside it before I'd vote for him. Fortunately, he isn't.

And Labour are going to form the next Government, which makes not voting for them much easier.

And Starmer is? They guy that says you and I have penises!!

I mean seriously. The greens can't even bring themselves to use the term 'woman' that is what we are up against!

Bloody wake up before it is too late folks.

People having to wait 8 hours for an ambulance if they can get one at all, people in a&e say there on floors for days, people not being able to get dentists, you vote for who you want but I know who I'm voting for!

That's irrelevant - the Tories are not going to win; what we're trying to do is prevent a Labour super-majority so there's still some GC voice in Government.

At this point it's just sounding more and more like that kid on the Simpsons who just shouts "penis!" on here.

Scare mongering tactics aren't gonna work on me.

I have posted on other threads about the dilemma in my constituency so won't repeat everything I said previously - but I did want to say that I sympathise entirely with those who have an awful choice. I have contemplated spoiling my ballot for the first time in my life. I feel very let down by the left wing parties for putting us in this position. And I hope the researchers for those parties read these threads and see how difficult some of their policies and spokespeople have made it to vote for them.

Holeinamole · 04/07/2024 13:37

I just think it’s wonderful that all you lovely women on here are such engaged voters. It’s not so long ago that we were denied the ballot because our voices were supposedly politically irrelevant. So whoever you are voting for, peace and well done!

Exactly this.

It's not a "single issue" on so many levels.

On the general issue of women's rights, if you cannot accurately define a woman, how can you make things equal for them?

Example - reducing the 'gender' pay gap... If transwomen (ie men who have not faced sex discrimination, career breaks due to maternity leave, part-time working, caring responsibilities, time off due to female health issues/menopause) are recorded as females, then you are artificially closing the gap; therefore it will look as though further initiatives to reduce it are not required.

And also on integrity/common sense/intelligence/honesty - if a politician either does not believe/lies about who an actual woman is, how can you trust them on anything else?!
