Speechless.
If that is all true - and Glinner is usually on the money - it's fucking outrageous.

I'm so sick of this shit. I want to vote for a political party that would clean out the Augean Stables that our government and institutions have become, but there isn't one.

FluffyDen · 30/06/2024 19:46

I'm not even shocked.

Nellieinthebarn · 30/06/2024 20:41

I feel a bit sick reading this. If I read this in a dystopian novel, I'd think it was a bit far fetched. The phrase morally bankrupt has never been more apt.

opalsandcoffee · 30/06/2024 20:43

Please can you say what this is about?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/06/2024 20:47

There are at least two threads about this already. Here's one of them. https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5107974-bbc-the-wpath-files-and-fergus-walsh-bbc-medical-editor?latest=1

I thought Gilead was a reference to Hamdmaid's Tale - didn't realise there was actually a pharma company called Gilead. How very...dystopian.

Appalonia · 30/06/2024 21:04

These truth bombs keep dropping and NOTHING EBER HAPPENS. Why? Are the MSM so ideologically captured? Or is it something more sinister? So tired of all the lies, half truths and silence on such important matters. What more can we do to get this out there? And we just get called bigots, Nazis, Karen's etc. So so tired of this.

UtopiaPlanitia · 30/06/2024 21:22

Appalonia it seems almost wilful at this point doesn't it? Quite a lot of the national media orgs have their fingers in their ears and are loudly shouting 'la, la, la. Can't hear you!"

I KNOW. I keep thinking wistfully back to the days of Panorama where something as big and scandalous as this would be thoroughly and intelligently covered. Guess those days are gone. Feels like we are just howling in the wind now.

And then we get criticised when the only outlets that pick it up are the Mail or right wing Christians in America...

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 30/06/2024 22:21

You're absolutely right Appalonia.

SiobhanSharpe · 30/06/2024 22:32

I first read it as a piece by the actual journalist who got in contact with Walsh about WPATH as he thought it was something the BBC science editor should know about. He couldn't understand at all why Walsh initially did not respond at all. He was then blocked from contacting him again.
He then discovered the link to Gilead through Walsh's wife's job and all became clear...
The sums of money involved are truly mind-boggling.

zibzibara · 01/07/2024 00:10

But there’s more. It turns out that Walsh is married to Dr. Véronique Walsh, the vice president of Gilead Sciences UK and Ireland. Gilead Sciences is a pharmaceutical company that set up a $4.5 million fund to “to improve the safety, health, and wellness of the transgender community, particularly in light of the disproportionate impact of HIV on transgender individuals”.

This isn't a smoking gun. Being married to someone doesn't mean their employer has power over your own views.

Let's not blame Fergus Walsh's wife for whatever negligent failures of journalism he's engaging in. It's his fault, not hers.

Apologies I didn't see it/them

No, but being married to someone set to benefit financially from x issue (and therefore you also benefit from x issue) is a clear conflict of interest when it comes to being impartial about x issue.

She is the vice president.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/07/2024 05:01

She is a vice-president. It's not like being the vice-president of the US. There are lots of people with that job title. Still a conflict of interest but she's not running the company.

Yes, but normally have some shares and similar or receive bonuses. She has far more to gain than, say, a random admin woman.
