Trigger Warning: Horrified by what happened to Lara Logan in Egypt *title edited by MNHQ*

This happened in 2011, but I have only just seen a video about it. It has utterly horrified me. Lara Logan was reporting on protests in Egypt, when the camera broke. Her colleague, who spoke the local language realised very quickly that she was in trouble, as he heard the crowds of men starting to talk about attacking Lara. He desperately tried to get her away from the mob, but she was dragged in to the crowd, and up to 200 men ripped all her clothes off, and then raped her and beat her with flagpoles. They then tried to rip her arms and legs off, and tried to rip her scalp off. She was eventually rescued, almost dead, by a crown of women and soldiers. These were muslim men.

I find it terrifying, that a group of men would all want to be so violent towards a woman, and not one thought that what they were doing, was wrong/should be stopped.

These are men who insist that women are covered at all times, who insist in no sex before marriage, and it makes me wonder whether they have deprived themselves of being around women, and then when they see one, they just lose all control. As far as I know, nothing like this has happened in the West, where women and sex are (for want of a better phrase) freely available.

Apparently, a high percentage of Egyptian men freely admit that they have sexually assaulted women, which seems at odds with men insisting that women are covered and not allowed sexual freedom.

The whole thing is just awful. That poor lady.

How weird as well, that they would prefer to have sex together with an unattractive woman, more than they would want sex on their own with a "hot" woman.

What is wrong with you?

What do you mean? This isn’t my view, it is the view of those Spanish rapists. Have you even read the article?

On the day of the massacre, Abeer's father Qassim was enjoying time with his family, while his sons were at school.[13] In broad daylight, the four U.S. soldiers walked to the house, not wearing their uniforms, but wearing army-issue long underwear reportedly to look like "ninjasjas--"[9] and separated 14-year-old Abeer and her family into two different rooms. Spielman was responsible for grabbing Abeer's 6-year-old sister, who was outside the house with her father, and bringing her inside the house.[14] Green then broke Abeer's mother's arms (likely resulting from a struggle that began when she heard her daughter being raped in the other room) and murdered her parents and younger sister, while two other soldiers, Cortez and Barker, raped Abeer.[15] Barker wrote that Cortez pushed Abeer to the floor, lifted her dress, and tore off her underwear while she struggled. According to Cortez, Abeer "kept squirming and trying to keep her legs closed and saying stuff in Arabicc," as he and Barker took turns holding her down and raping her.[16]*
Cortez testified that Abeer heard the gunshots in the room in which her parents and little sister were being held, causing her to scream and cry even more. Green then emerged from the room saying, "I just killed them, all are dead."[17] Green, who later said the crime was "awesome,"[18]then raped Abeer, afterwards shooting her in the head multiple times. After the massacre, Barker poured petrol on Abeer and the soldiers set fire to the lower part of the girl's body. Barker testified that the soldiers gave Spielman their bloodied clothes to burn and that he threw the AK-477 used to murder the family into a canal. They left to "celebrate" their crimes with a meal of chicken wings.[19]

But western men don't do that. faux eyed innocence

My 12 year old has never been told she has "nice tits" by a man standing outside a mosque

I don’t think 12yr olds are safe outside a mosque or a Wetherspoons, sadly.

I personally rate Spoons as one of the safer pubs to go alone. That’s all I was saying.

Men are the issue, not men of particular races. There are cultures and countries where women are routinely oppressed. Institutional, legal repression.

It’s unreasonable to ignore that, and men from those cultures will inevitably carry those attitudes with them wherever they go.

That doesn’t make them better or worse than abusive men anywhere.

Disgusting and criminal. And prosecuted, by the sound of it.

There is a part of me that would punish this behaviour with such barbarity that most men would be too terrified to even look funny at a woman.

I agree.

BATUK is currently under investigation by the Defense, Intelligence and Foreign Relations committee of Kenya’s National Assembly.
It has held public hearings in several areas where British troops train and heard a litany of complaints about abuse, exploitation, and sexual assaults from communities around them.
It intends to hear from BATUK officials and the British High Commissioner to Kenya at the end of its work later this month, according to a schedule shared with CNN.
One of the more contentious accusations against British soldiers involves the case of Agnes Wanjiru.
Wanjiru, a 21-year-old Kenyan woman, vanished in 2012 after entering a hotel with British soldiers, according to reports.

Her body was later found in a septic tank. Despite a Kenyan inquest ruling her death a murder and the reported identification of a suspect by fellow soldiers, the British soldier allegedly involved hasn’t faced charges.
This one is ongoing. All the claims (hundreds of them) are apparently lies.

@KeirSpoutsTwaddle that's what she finds "weird" though , out of the whole horrific, criminal shitshow?

Hoppinggreen · 30/06/2024 19:56

ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat · 30/06/2024 19:20

@Hoppinggreen but if you say it's a male issue and male violence that is the problem and you suddenly get NAMALT.Grin

If M stands for Muslims then absolutely.

ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat · 30/06/2024 19:57

And she keeps making it about sex, attractiveness, clothes and the free West. Those might be the rapists' words but she latched onto them due to her own views.

I stand by my comment.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 30/06/2024 19:58

MMALT if they are given the opportunity, I think. Some cultures do a better job of holding it in check than others.
Some cultures seem to make it a feature rather than a bug.

PonderingVAT · 30/06/2024 20:30

The older I get the more I see that it's just MEN - Lara Logan's case is particularly horrific and was by no means an isolated incident during that period in Egypt.

One of the reports that just made me realise how common it is that men view women in this way was this one: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12436097/Magaluf-gang-rape-Tourists-invited-free-sex-three-men-deliberately-plied-Brit-18-drink-attacked-hotel-said-strangers-corridor-join-in.html

The attackers were so confident that no one would stop them they asked strangers if they wanted to rape the victim. And they were right, other random men joined in.

Magaluf rape: Tourists 'invited to have "free sex" with Brit teen'

A total of eight men are accused of raping the 18-year-old British woman, according to Spanish police, who said the suspects did not know each other prior to the attack on August 14.

Beyond words!

PurpleBugz · 30/06/2024 20:56

I really don't want to generalise about religion/race as I do think this is a male thing but in my personal experience and the experiences of people I know irl there does seem to be an over representation of sexual assault by Muslim men where I'm from. I've been through mental ward then group therapy and later the freedom program and the pattern I've seen is all types of men can potentially assult their partners or children/nieces but when it's a man who the victim didn't know it was a Muslim man. There was a gang rape at my school the victim was 14 I think and it was Muslim boys and many others in the school said she asked for it based on how she dressed. I had one friend who said an actual teacher was gang raped in her school by Muslim teens. I don't know if there are stats on it, I feel like I should see them before making such generalisations but this has been the stories I personally have heard/experiences

Treaclewell · 30/06/2024 21:01

They were following the model of a bunch of Christians in Alexandria urged on by a preacher, Cyril, who some see as a saint, who murdered a woman by cutting her up with abalone shells. In 415 AD. She was a brilliant mathematician and university lecturer, called Hypatia.

I wasn't going to mention her. I came on to retail a remark I heard a man make when women had reported events on the hajj. So Muslim women, deeply taking part in a religious event, as serious as a nun at Lourdes, finding they had to divert their attention from prayers to protect themselves from groping or worse. They couldn't understand how a man who was supposed to be thinking of God could do that.
And I was coming on here to repeat what a Saudi security guy (I think) said. "It's just human behaviour." I had shouted at the radio in my car.
"It's NOT HUMAN BEHAVIOUR. IT'S MALE!"

And I'm so sorry for what that reporter went through.

This is so very horrible it makes life seem undermined at its core, that there is no point to it - as this is what can happen if men get the chance, and then all encourage each other.

And if they are now filming gang rape and using it as porn, it will be an ambition.

They need a circle of women to come and rip them up.

I think there's a group of women in India that beat up rapists.

Well I have been sexually assaulted as have quite a few of my friends and it was by white men in every case so my personal experiences and what I have heard is different.
What all this scum have in common is their sex. Its about sex not religion and trying to claim that Muslim men are more likely to assault women than men of other religions could be seen as Islamaphobia.

TheaBrandt · 30/06/2024 21:40

It does seem some that in some cultures blatant sexual verbal abuse of women is condoned and accepted. I’ve been flashed at / had grim comments from white men in uk and Europe but nothing like the level in Cairo that was insane.

Guavafish1 · 30/06/2024 21:40

Men in general are disgusting

If you could they would rape their own mothers and sisters.

Yes I have already read this.

I will still take issue with the OP labelling a rape victim 'unattractive' for no reason whatsoever and wondering why her rapists would not want to be with a 'hot' girl instead.
Rape is not about attractiveness. It is about male power and brutality.

Edited

It seems from that Spanish Wolf Pack quote that the rapists were just using the ‘fat girl’ hypothesis (seen on their WhatsApp plan) to emphasise how much they wanted to do sex as ‘gang’ rape:

Sex, even with someone they fancied a lot, was not going to do the trick.

Presumably not even one on one rape would have either. They wanted it to be an all out gang rape by all the mates together.
The ultimate lads’ night out of living porn and male bonding exercise.
They were probably cowardly incels as individuals.

There seems to be the influence of porn in this.

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 30/06/2024 21:46

Gang rape isn't a new thing. Men of all cultures and all faiths have perpetrated sexual violence against women for millennia. They do it alone, and in groups, in every country in the world.

ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat · 30/06/2024 21:53

@ScrollingLeaves OP still seems to think there's a link between rape and sex (or lack of) and clothing and how the women present themselves, regardless of the Spanish men being quoted. She also seems to think that's why gang rapes don't happen in western countries, because women and sex are freely available. Except, you know ,it does, and it has fuck all to do with sex or clothes or availability.
