Anyone in Bristol Central voting for POW?

It’s close in this seat between Greens and Labour.

Green canvasser (male) came to the door this evening so I asked what the local candidate’s position is on single sex spaces. He immediately launched into a monologue about trans rights, talking about trans suicide rates as they are such a marginalised group, and that the issue of single sex spaces and trans rights has become toxic and everyone needs to be kinder about it. He doesn’t feel comfortable talking to me about it, because he’s a man. I pointed out that he’s there representing the views of Carla Denyer, not himself!

Anyway, he’s basically talked himself out of a Green vote from me, which is something that I had been considering. Interesting how he immediately mentioned trans rights when I had simply asked about single sex spaces - it’s clearly not something that Carla will be supporting, so that’s me out.

I’m toying with voting Labour, but increasingly think I might vote for KJK and POW party, just so my GC voice is counted.

Is that pointless?

I’m an NHS worker in a field where GC views would probably get me fired, so this feels like the only way I can have my (anonymous!) voice heard!

It doesn't look "patently untrue" to me.

Well, I'm afraid I can't help you.

It looks like a perfectly reasonable hypothesis, supported by lots of circumstantial evidence.

Circumstantial evidence isn't unequivocal evidence, though is it? If Nazis turn up and crash her event, unprevented by Police and she later says that she doesn't support them and doesn't want them attending, (she has, people have posted the statements) then how can you possibly, logically claim that it's a reasonable hypothesis?

I can only conclude that you have an agenda here and aren't posting in good faith.

None of the evidence supports the dishonest claims that she's on the far right, or involved with them. None at all.

Fair enough if you don't like her, but it's wrong to ascribe things to her, which she doesn't stand for.

Of course. I disagree with you, so it must be a "bad faith agenda" as opposed to a different interpretation of the facts #sarcasm.

All I'd say to anyone considering supporting PoW and KJK is go and read up on this stuff and watch some of her own videos, look at her own twitter. You don't have to go far at all to realise why people have concerns.

Well she didn't tell them to eff off and they seemed to have a prime location, even preventing KJK accessing her own equipment.

If not invited, her stewards were doing a rubbish job.

Anyway blah. She brings it on herself by not calling them out

Nobody knew who they were.

The large crowd around her formed almost instantly without any management by anyone.

You really do make a fool of yourself over and over here. I feel a bit sorry for you. I'm sure a lot of us do by now.

She has and does call them out. You really ought to know that, her statements on the subject have been posted on Mumsnet on numerous occasions.

Brick wall comes to mind @SinnerBoy

Chariothorses · 28/06/2024 12:22

@WishingOnACar
Yes I think it matters - it's scary when you see the rape/ death threats women get for not pretending men are women, also some employers target women for punishment too if they won't lie about this. And then MPs say it's both sides!!
So I just look at canvasers blankly and say I don't know.

Her line is the same as yours - she can't help it if they come to all her events, noone knows why blah blah

Meanwhile she continues to be close to the stewards who went on the TR march.

Most political leaders would cut ties with people who behaved like that. Even Farage has been forced into it in Clacton.

Anyway, people can do what they like. I'm just correcting the worst hogwash (I.e. there is no evidence she is sympathetic to the far right).

Let's not do a whole nother thread of why I'm wrong and you are right (or vice versa). We can just agree to disagree.

CassieMaddox · 28/06/2024 12:33

I think the fact JKR is not supporting or amplifying POW in any way speaks volumes about how good an option POW is for women and girls

VitaSays · 28/06/2024 12:58

You can think what you like, Cassie. I doubt from what she's said about Labour that JKR (a former Labour donor) will think that POW is a worse option than Labour.

Sausagenbacon · 28/06/2024 13:19

Surprisingly enough, I don't give a damn what JKR thinks. She's only one voice among many people who have spoken in support of women. The media only has a narrow bandwidth so focus on her exclusively .
Which is a shame.
Kjk is a brave woman. She's also annoying - I find her videos irritating . But I admire her and believe she deserves my support.

Ah. What political leaders do. Cool topic. The Labour Party has a deputy leader who tells us that ‘transgender women’s rights are women’s rights’. Maybe Kier should cut his ties with her.

JKRowling supporting and amplifying Aja and Let Women Speak

Anyone in Bristol Central voting for POW?
CassieMaddox · 28/06/2024 14:46

Ah OK, so Aja and LWS are associated with PoW then? I'm sure on previous threads we were told that there was no association and what Aja does in her spare time is irrelevant.

artant · 28/06/2024 15:43

The betting odds suggest that Denyer is set to win in Bristol Central. If I lived there (which I did once but decades ago), I’d definitely vote for Debbonaire.

Yes, indeed. "Pah! You won't convince me with stupid facts, figures and evidence! I have a POSITION and I'm not budging!"

Confused Have literally no clue what you are on about

Anyway here are KJK and Farage using the same kinds tactics when caught out.

DrSpartacular · 28/06/2024 18:02

Who is this Noone?

IwantToRetire · 28/06/2024 18:26

Talk about deja vu - start in the evening to catch up on threads.

See one has been really busy. Think I wonder what has been said.

And guess, what not just the usual suspects rolling to the same old, same old, but other responding.

What a shame that it is now virtually impossible to have thread that doesn't always get bogged down.

Wouldn't it just be nice if say in this intstance, those in this part of Bristol could have had a honest discussion, exchange of views without someone presuming they could come and lecture them.

How many posts have actully been about the situation in Bristol and the candidates.

IwantToRetire · 28/06/2024 18:27

Have already posted this on the other thread about Bristol Central.

From someone who lives there.

The Women's Voice Hustings in Bristol which happened last night.

Thangam Debonnaire and Karla Denyer failed to show.

They also didn't bother to appear at the Deaf and Disabled People's Hustings last week.

KJK appeared, and was banned from speaking. When she attempted to hand out excellent Party of Women leaflets she was accused of handing out fascist propaganda by one woman and there was a sudden rule made in the hall that leaflets could not be distributed.

Note: these are the official Party of Women leaflets distributed by the candidates.

Free speech and feminist principles have disappeared from Bristol, home of Greens and Labour.

ForForToo · 28/06/2024 18:31

I’m voting POW(not in Bristol). I’m not voting for KJK specifically. I’m voting for my POW candidate, as she is sensible and rational and prioritises safeguarding children and sex-based rights for women over men’s ‘feelings’.

Fuck Labour for ignoring me for the last 5 years on this issue. Why should I vote for them? Rayner & Starmer make me sick, and I’ve voted Labour all my life, but they can do one this time. I’m done.

CassieMaddox · 01/07/2024 20:47

Anyone watch the hustings? I just did. Very good fun. The reform guy was a bit of a conspiracy theorist. Lib Dem dude was funny, probably my favourite.
Was not impressed by KJK ducking the Gaza question. Anyone looking at her twitter knows her thoughts. Also quite deafening silence for her and Reform guy.

Thangam was very feisty. I thought she did well. Will be interested to see the results.

Absolutely, she isn't backwards about coming forward with her pro-Israel opinions on twitter and youtube. I don't understand why she passed on this question.
