https://www.theguardian.com/football/article/2024/jun/25/manchester-united-women-moved-out-of-training-building-to-accommodate-men-carrington

So it seems that although it is the men's training facilities that are being updated, it's the women that are going into the portacabins. Really disappointing that no one has made the case that the women have had to wait decades for their own space already.

Manchester United Women moved out of training building to accommodate men

The Manchester United women’s team will be moved into portable buildings to allow the men to use the women’s building while the men’s facilities are being revamped

It seems the men going into the portacabins wasn't even an option on the table.

Another example of women having their things taken when men want them. I doubt The Guardian will see the parallels though.

A small point. Man U no longer call themselves "Manchester United Football Club.

As a Liverpool FOOTBALL CLUB supporter, I make no comment on why that may be, though a quick read of Red Cafe, their official (I think) forum might give you a clue 😁.

the reason why it's the women's team that is inconvenience and not the mens, well that's down to money, of course. The men's team makes more for the owners than the women's team.

morally wrong, but that's capitalism for you.

I don't intend to look it up beyond Wikipedia which still refers to it as a football club but I'll happily take your word for it.

It just smacks of entitlement to me.

Whats yours

BreadInCaptivity · 26/06/2024 00:39

Oops...

What's yours is only to have until I claim it back.....

It just shows the attitude towards the female game.

If the men (on their huge salaries) had any moral fibre about them, they'd be objecting to this "solution".

But they won't.

Are they going back to Newton Heath? MUFC is possibly the most famous club in the world, why would they change name?

Villagetoraiseachild · 26/06/2024 09:48

Surely they could have put the men up in a luxury hotel and helicoptered them into training individually?

Villagetoraiseachild · 26/06/2024 09:49

I am joking of course. Same old male entitlement and misogyny.

Boxina · 26/06/2024 09:51

The men should insist on going into the portacabins. How are they not appalled at chucking the women out? Horrific misogyny.

Chersfrozenface · 26/06/2024 09:55

There are two active entities registered at Companies House - Manchester United Football Club Limited (co no 00095489) incorporated in 1907 and Manchester United Limited (co no 02570509) incorporated in 1990 and previously called Manchester United PLC from 25 Jan 1991 to 11 Oct 2005 and Voteasset Public Limited Company from
21 Dec 1990 to 25 Jan 1991.

I have no idea what the difference is.

Sorry for derail.

Overpaid male footballers aren't known for their sensitivity and thoughtfulness towards the female sex. Most will also have massive egos. I imagine they think they are the most important players so they get the best facilities on offer even if that means taking those facilities from the women.

It's just a microcosm of how the rest of the world works.

Pr0fessionalLurker · 26/06/2024 10:00

It was pretty telling when watching one of the Arsenal announcements when they signed Russo from MU. There was a video where she was given a tour of the facilities and the sheer surprise on her face when she saw the men and the women players ate together and used the same facilities really said everything that needed to be said about United.

This group of men have a chance to send a really powerful message to all the men & boys who look up to them:
'Women matter too, we shouldn't just sweep in and take over their resources'

And for their female fans a reminder that we matter, we are equally entitled to a good standard of treatment and our spaces are our own.

I doubt it even occurred to the male players to question this, because women are always expected to budge up the bench.

I spoke to my husband about this this evening. He just couldn't get it when I said that why do women have to stand aside to ensure men are comfortable/have it easier? He said it's about the costs that's all...
