JKR calls Labour's Bluff - Offering Meeting leadership only on her terms

JKR is playing at a different level. After Starmer and Reeves offered to meet with her she gave them her conditions.

I'll be happy to meet after NoXYinXXprisons, Lesbian Labour, Womens Rights Network, WomansPlaceUK and Alliance LGB have been given in person meetings with the Labour leadership. I'd also like to know whether Angela Rayner still considers the last two organisations hate groups.

They are trapped either they now have to meet with gay and women's groups and listen to them something they are desperate not to do. It is not impossible then that Reeves at least can be made to see some sense. Even talking with these groups and JKR will also make TRAs go ballistic and many will leave the party. Chances are that Labour will promise a bunch of stuff to JKR which If Labour still follow gender nonsense after that they can be fully held to account for. If they promise single sex spaces are safe then every time that is breached Labour's credibility will be on the line

Or if they refuse to meet with the groups they prove EVERYTHING JKR said in her essay was right.

The media are now hyping the meeting further locking Labour in

Alastair Campbell was on GMB this morning, did anyone see it or know if he got questioned on this? I noted that yesterday he chose to retweet a “Trans Rights are Human Rights” post (featuring your “friend” and mine IW) rather than acknowledge the hole Labour have dug for themselves.

No I didn't see it CaveMum. Blimey, if he's following that barmpot, he's gone right down in my estimation. I'm genuinely shocked to read that.

So according to the scolders we are fascists, Tories, mean, haterz etc etc ...but we mustn't spoil our ballots and must VOTE LABOUR?

I've been present at many counts in the past as a Labour representative. It's perfectly clear to the candidates what has been written on a spoiled ballot.

Each one is scrutinised and agreed that it's spoiled. They aren't just chucked in the bin by a teller without that additional check. People writing that your candidate is a knobhead might make some snigger in bravado. However, when your majority is reduced, you definitely know the reason why some people were pissed off with your candidate. Sometimes it's the only way to get a message across at local level. Cries of no one pays attention are just untrue.

I'll be voting local Independent or spoiling, unless, a miracle happens,

I see nothing convincing from Labour about Women's Rights, Safeguarding, Disability Rights, Carers, and joined up Health and Social Care. It's all twee sounding waffle from them, with shouts of Toxic if you take issue with anything said.

They can bugger off.

Your experience certainly isn't universal. In the vast majority of cases, all that is recorded is that there were X number of spoiled ballots - no-one categorises them according to whether it appears that the voter just made a mistake, didn't understand the process, was making a protest, was just vandalising the paper, thought writing rude things was funny, etc. The only time they get thoroughly scrutinised is when the vote is close, and even then people are simply satisfying themselves that it is not a valid vote rather than reading and pondering on whatever essay the voter might have written. They're certainly not going to bother reporting to the candidate what was on each spoilt ballot, life is too short.

Translation- if this is what I think you're referring to- a small number of lesbians holding gender critical views holding up/trying to hijack a pride march they hadn't registered (which is the rules) and being asked to leave. A pride march which has also been attended by large numbers, dozens or hundreds, of non-gender-critical gay and lesbians who enjoyed the event and had a good time.

It was glorious to watch Get the L Out leading Pride in London for about 30 mins, while the live reporter from Pink News gibbered over the live stream they did. The recording is still on their website.

"Pride is a protest" - no not that kind! You must do the admin first!

I have listed to his TRIP podcast since the beginning and it's "fascinating" how two such opinionated men can be so avoiding of the women's rights debate. I think the closest they've got to it even being mentioned was when Seb Coe was on explaining the athletics stance (but it didn't get probed) and some very out of order and dismissive comments from both of them about JKR's response to the new Scottish legislation.

They should get JKR on their leading podcast and become educated. Their current attitude is disgraceful. They might as well hashtag their podcast #nodebate

Dymaxion · 25/06/2024 08:22

She is fantastic isn't she ?

I don't understand why it is so difficult for Labour to deal with this even adequately, it would require so little effort on the part of Starmer and yet he dithers over this issue, which makes him look weak at best.
According to the detractors on here, ordinary working people don't care about this issue, so he isn't going to upset the vast majority of his voting public by speaking the truth and supporting the rights of 50% of the electorate, is he ?

PurpleWhiteGreen123 · 25/06/2024 08:22

I had a postal vote and spoiled it. I haven't wasted my vote at all. Spoiling is better than not taking part at all. It's my tiny protest.

If he thinks IW is a worthy cause rather than a bitter, misogynistic attention seeker, he needs some sort of intervention.

So bloody disappointing.

CaveMum · 25/06/2024 08:33

I should clarify, Alastair Campbell did not retweet IW, he retweeted a post by “Keighley Cougars” (sports team of some sort) which was a video on being kind and showing respect which featured IW. He may not have known about IW being in it and just did a “woke points” retweet.

I agree with those that say how disappointed they are in him and Rory for not discussing the issue - for me more so for Rory as he’s closer to my own political position that Alastair is.

Alastair’s daughter is a very right on Be Kind comedienne, so I suspect she colours his view on the issue.

Absolutely agree that they should interview JKR for Leading, perhaps we should all mass email them with the suggestion?

They're Important Men who don't think women or women's issues are worthy of their Important Man Thoughts.

Many such cases.

menopausalmare · 25/06/2024 08:38

I bloody love that woman❤️

Floisme · 25/06/2024 09:02

Going back to spoilt votes. I've worked at counts. The agents who were on the ball (and/or whose candidate, let's face it, might need every vote) asked to see the spoilt ballots. Admittedly this was mainly to make sure they couldn't decipher any genuine votes out of them but they'd go through them carefully and, if there were similar repeated messages, they couldn't have failed to notice.

The lazy, arrogant agents, not so much.

It's certainly not ideal and I'd only do it if there was absolutely no alternative candidate, but I'd argue it's better than not voting at all.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/06/2024 09:48

which was a video on being kind and showing respect which featured IW

lol, reminds me of when some numpties in parliament got Lily Madigan to be the face of their "Kinder Gentler Politics" report.

goldfinch73514 · 25/06/2024 09:57

Can someone enlighten me? IF Labour win, is there any possibility that Starmer will go? Or do they see it as mandate for he's doing good? Or does it depend on how much he wins by etc?

ScrapeMyArse · 25/06/2024 09:58

Jkr really shows up people who are at heart self serving. They simply cannot fathom a person who doesn't put her own interests first. I wish I had a fraction of her integrity.

LarkLane · 25/06/2024 10:26

Sky News now Health Secretary gives speech about womens rights and references Labour and JKR.

Oh touché, oh mighty JKR. Cuts straight through the BS I bloody love it!

I’m now really tempted to spoil my ballot and write on it :
’NONE OF THE ABOVE. JK ROWLING FOR PM 🌟’

"They are trapped either they now have to meet with gay and women's groups"

A lot of people including myself have the viewpoint the LGB-Alliance is not a gay rights group but more of an anti-trans group. Plenty of proof to back this up including people who wear LGB-Alliance clothing not being welcome at actual gay bars and gay pride events. And the fact almost everything they say and do is all about being anti-trans rather than actually benefitting gay people.

They don't respond to emails pointing this out to them.

Interesting. Are primary schools anti adults? Are Marie Curie anti healthy people? Are Italian restaurants anti-Chinese restaurants?

Such silliness. Anyway, moving on...

GiveMeSpanakopita · 25/06/2024 10:58

I can never get over how admirable JKR is.

Pulled herself out of a terrible situation? TICK.
Wrote a book series that's on a par with Lord of the Rings for global reach and generational influence? TICK.
Wrote another book series that's easily on a level with the great detective writers like Christie? TICK.
Put her whole self on the parapet to stand up for women less powerful than herself when she could've just bathed in her money and mouthed platitudes? TICK.

I LOVE this woman!!!

Abhannmor · 25/06/2024 10:59

I'm hugely confused now Ted. I thought J K Rowling was the author of children's fiction while Keir Starmer was the brilliant barrister. They seem to have swapped places.

anyolddinosaur · 25/06/2024 11:00

Starmer wants to meet JKR because she's given a lot of money to Labour in the past and it discourages other rich people from donating if they dont even get heard by you. Plus he's probably so deluded he thinks his weasel words about "safe spaces" may encourage her to send some of her money his way again. And she has pointed out just how many organisations there are that speak for women and same sex attracted people and how many votes he is ignoring. Class act.

If a lot of people spoil their ballots politicians will start paying attention to what is written on them because they may affect the next elections - not just general elections but council elections and byelections. It also denies them legitimacy. So if you dont have a candidate that deserves your vote and you value how hard women fought to vote than spoil your ballot paper. Adding JKR for prime minister is better than none of the above, which I suggested to my OH.

Back to the topic, I have an idea, hear me out.

Instead of meeting with politicians to discuss trans people. Why doesn't JK Rowling instead meet with actual trans people to talk?

She isn't going to talk about trans identified people,. She wants to talk about women and girls.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 25/06/2024 11:18

Hadalifeonce · 25/06/2024 11:14

But women and girls are boring, no one could really want to talk about them 🙄

Just to be on the safe side yes I'm being sarcastic but it is genuinely what some people think.

Redshoeblueshoe · 25/06/2024 11:19

JKR has spoken to trans people, and has many followers and fans who are trans. I actually think that TRA's do more damage to trans people than anyone else.

Well said, there are a number of 'old school' transsexuals (many of whom prefer that term) who are quite opposed to the current TRA insanity. Most transsexuals are not deluded about their biological sex nor seek to coercively impose reality denial on others.
