Starmer supports single-sex spaces [in healthcare]

You might want to sit down &/or put down anything precious before reading this one lads.

Starmer has explicitly stated he supports single-sex wards; & that single sex would exclude even TW with a GRC. Of course, he then goes on to make it clear he’s no idea at all about Annex B nor indeed that side rooms = as gold dust in many Trusts.

Maybe Tony Blair sent him a wee set of flashcards?

The Belfast telegraph quotes Starmer saying on LBC 'Sir Keir: “No. It’s a single-sex ward. That is the NHS policy.”

This is not true - they often have a clause that to 'respect a patients dignity' they can actually request to stay on any ward they want... making the whole thing meaningless....

Tiny point, I'm not a lad, I'm a laydeee!
Keir will say anything regardless of whether he believes it or not, he just needs to lie to women for a few weeks to get into number ten and then we'll all be womb Havers until we're old enough to be former bleeders.

Single-sex wards and intimate care are incredibly important issues for me, I just don't really trust him.

The Labour slight-of-hand 'safe spaces' rather than the clear 'single-sex spaces' does not reassure me either.

Hmm - as the article points out, Sir Keir is wrong in what NHS policy currently says.

And sadly, whilst I can potentially believe that
a) he didn’t know that and
b) he thinks what he thought it was should be the case,
I am HIGHLY sceptical that if he was posed the question ‘actually, NHS policy currently allows transwomen in female wards, would you change that?’ he would commit to making the change.

I am beginning to think he sees the light, but he is in no way brave enough to do the right thing, sadly.

After seeing his Question time answer regarding Rosie Duffield I think there is no hope that he will support women, or even listen to our concerns.

You don't know he's lying

@RainWithSunnySpells 'The Labour slight-of-hand 'safe spaces' rather than the clear 'single-sex spaces' does not reassure me either.'

Its more ominous the more you think about this one. Especially as the article linked to by OP seems to say he actually said 'single sex spaces'. Women and girls ask for these for reasons of privacy, dignity and safety. To reduce 'safe spaces' means that if there is no threat to safety then they are not to be offered? Back again down to the argument that TW are only rarely a threat to safety.

Its the same problem as we have with only a few TW athletes win medals. To enable this a lot of other people (women and girls) will self exclude and lose opportunities that were specifically set up for THEM.

I am starting to feel that even though the Greens and Lib-Dems are much more TWAW rhetoric at least they are not lying. This guy (next PM) is and the bigger his majority the more he will feel justified. Its shameful if he has not been paying attention, but starting to think he has and is just playing chicken.
