Individual candidate positions

Hi all - this may not be useful but I thought I'd start a thread on individual candidates positions on women's rights and gender identity. My local labour MP is Meg Hillier - I can find various statements in the past suggesting support for self ID and a ban on "all forms" of conversion therapy, but I can't find anything she has said recently. Does anyone have an insights into her actual position in this election?

(Feel free to add your local candidates!).

I don't like to be too public about where I live, so I won't be doing this, OP. But you might like to know that Sex Matters and Women's Rights Network are both collecting this information.

Given what happened to the recent ward election in that borough where the Labour woman had a GC position and then got suspended, I suspect she doesn't have a public position.

But found this for you on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/ssghcs/meg_hillier_mps_response_to_enquiry_about/

I think she will keep her head down and hope to get some senior position to do with finances.

But can see the point made by PP who didn't want to have the area they live in made obvious, so maybe you want get as many replies as you would like.

But good to know Sex Matters are chasing this up.

Good idea to be cautious imo

Obviously an individual choice, but for instance on the thread about Bristol it has been really informative to be told what is going on on the ground as opposed to public statements, news paper reports.

ie the difference between what is said in public and what actually happens.

You can always name change to post on this thread?

Rightsraptor · 21/06/2024 09:39

Well, I can never actually remember how to name change! And then will probably forget to change it back for another topic. But definitely do post the info here if you feel happy about doing so.

Sex Matters and WRN will both have a very organised approach to this. WRN you fill some info into their given fields yourself, not really any room to comment etc and SM you forward them any correspondence from parliamentary candidates. I suspect MN might go off on a slight, if very amusing, tangent as we often do on here.

Thank you! Yes appreciate some might be in constituencies where outing could be more of an issue. After the recent flurry of Labour announcements who show they haven't listened or understood a bloody thing about this issue, they are making no my mind up for me.
