Green Party co-leader on Nicky Campbell show just now - reverse ferret?!

Couldn't believe what I was hearing – not only did Nicky Campbell ask him about the Cass Report and women's single-sex spaces, but Adrian Ramsey of the Greens seemed to distance his party from the Scottish Greens, say that he would implement Cass, and that he supports some spaces being single-sex. WTF? Are they backing away from the insanity?

Was on the phone-in probably around 9.50 this morning. Don't think it's available to listen to yet but should be soon.

From what you've reported he's said I expect he'll be expelled by tomorrow breakfast.

IsabelleSE19 · 18/06/2024 11:30

Indeed – is it now becoming acceptable in the GP to have these views? Because a lot of members have left over it, willingly or unwillingly!

Ramsay on the Scottish Greens: “They're a separate party… I don't share Patrick Harvie's view on the Cass Report… In the Green Party of England and Wales we haven’t taken a formal party position on it.“

Got the link now – segment starts at 48.00 mins ish. Was pleased with the way Nicky Campbell dealt with it generally.

Given that they've suspended Darren Johnson and deselected Alison Teal for saying this it would be a massive reverse ferret. Perhaps, like Labour, they're hoping they can say both things at once.

SirChenjins · 18/06/2024 11:39

If I had a pound for every promise and assurance a politician gave in the lead up to an election that was then conveniently ditched afterwards I’d be a very rich woman.

The Scottish Greens weren’t always like this - and then tells you all you need to know.

biddyboo · 18/06/2024 12:16

I heard that too. I'm pretty sure he said that is his personal view though, and that there are other factions of the party that think differently. It was good to hear him say that he disagrees with Patrick Harvie in Scotland.

DrNickedMaCorpus · 18/06/2024 12:18

I mean, they did publish a party view on it. I think it was up for half an hour before they deleted it?

DrNickedMaCorpus · 18/06/2024 12:19

In any case, a supposedly grown up political party failing to support the Cass Review is absurd. 'not taking a position' on sterilising children isn't an option, Adrian.

Fenlandia · 18/06/2024 12:52

I'm sure Emma Bateman, Pilgrim Tucker and Shahrar Ali will be raising their eyebrows at this interview given what they have been through (I'm sure I've missed other Green party gender apostates).

DrNickedMaCorpus · 18/06/2024 12:53

Alison Teal, for another.

biddyboo · 18/06/2024 13:51

I wonder if this has been coming up a lot on the campaign trail and maybe it is finally getting through to them. I liked the comment that Nicky Campbell read out - that this is.a feminist issue, not culture war stuff.

DrNickedMaCorpus · 18/06/2024 14:07

I'd suggest that perhaps Adrian has moderately sensible views but is outnumbered by Carla Denyer and Zak thingummy. Who are vociferous trans activists.

RedToothBrush · 18/06/2024 14:46

If they have to do this publicly before an election they KNOW that saying TWAW has become completely and utterly toxic to the electorate.

They will be consulting opinion polls and focus groups...

Waitwhat23 · 18/06/2024 14:53

The Scottish Greens believe the Greens in the rUK to be irredeemably transphobic -

(The Beth mentioned as the person who proposed the motion is the violent male activist who the leader of the Scottish Lib Dems 'did it all for')

The Scottish Green Party (who voted against the six words amendment) are beyond hope.

I listened to Darren Johnson speak on the Queens' Speech podcast recently and he said something similar about Caroline Lucas - that he doesn't think she believes in a lot of the gender stuff as she is a lifelong feminist, but she has been "re-educated" to say the right thing and toe the party line.

FictionalCharacter · 18/06/2024 15:08

So he’s avoiding the issue: “In the Green Party of England and Wales we haven’t taken a formal party position on it.” (Cass)

Also this webinar was interesting on the topic.

so the biggest medical scandal since thalidomide , to rank alongside the blood transfusion debacle and they adopt a "no comment" stance. Were supposed to take these people seriously?

Nobody believes the gender stuff. They just take a position on whether they're going to pretend to or not.

SirChenjins · 18/06/2024 15:25

I disagree - there are people who absolutely believe the gender stuff and are only quite happy to do the re-educating.

duc748 · 18/06/2024 15:30

There are some 'true believers'. But I think they are in a pretty small minority.

biddyboo · 18/06/2024 16:12

I think there are definitely some true gender zealots in the Greens, but there are also many in the party who have just been browbeaten into going along with it. Hopefully some of the latter group will start to feel brave enough to push back on it soon.

Blackcats7 · 18/06/2024 16:19

Who can take the Green’s seriously no matter what they have to say now.
I still can’t get past “Melissa Poulton” aka Mathew Viner. Although google tells me he is no longer the Bromsgrove candidate.

kiterunning · 18/06/2024 18:28

So pleased that Nicky Campbell is discussing this (at last)
He's avoided the topic for years so the tide must really be turning.
