Remind me, who introduced the GRA?

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/06/17/tony-blair-labour-trans-views-gender-general-election/

https://archive.ph/OIlfQ I'd jump several walls to slap him round the chops while shouting 'what.were.you.thinking!'

Ooh, ooh I know that one Miss! The Labour Party!

And Blair still thinks chopping your cock off should get you into women's spaces; he clearly has not given this more that a passing thought.

ClaustrophobicKipper · 17/06/2024 11:34

It is the bleeding obvious, but I'm just glad he has said it! Get the ball rolling in the right direction

ResisterRex · 17/06/2024 11:36

Great. Cheers for your careful and considered thoughts on possibly the worst bit of legislation you passed Hmm

Beowulfa · 17/06/2024 11:41

I had been wondering what Blair in his political prime would have made of the trans issue. I'd like to think he was astute politician enough to go with the common sense majority and not make himself look stupid being unable to answer basic questions. But of course he was heavily influenced by US foreign policy, so may have been suggestible to gender-woo from that direction.

DreamDictionary · 17/06/2024 11:49

Is he just being thick? Does he think that ‘reassigning gender’ is literally having the opposite sex’s sex organs fashioned by surgeons?

The GRA doesn’t even require surgery for a GRC.

He is the one in a bloody muddle. Clearly.

ufdcnh2564 · 17/06/2024 12:03

I'm still glad he's speaking out. Makes it very clear that it's NOT a left-right issue.

ufdcnh2564 · 17/06/2024 12:12

Why isn't this in the Guardian??

duc748 · 17/06/2024 12:15

Well, he's not a left/right kinda guy. As PP say, he's clearly given the matter at least two minutes of thought.

teawamutu · 17/06/2024 12:18

Is Blair wading in going to help us with Starmer? I fear it won't but would be glad to be wrong.

jcakey · 17/06/2024 12:32

ufdcnh2564 · 17/06/2024 12:12

Why isn't this in the Guardian??

Hmm, maybe because it's not a woman sharing her views. So they can't accuse them of having an "ugly stain" or whatever.

ArabellaScott · 17/06/2024 12:35

And what has Starmer said?

What's Starmer said about Rosie Duffield not attending hustings?

Why is he silent?

Floisme · 17/06/2024 12:40

Well he e clearly doesn't 'completely get it' at all. But I don't suppose he's ever going to say, 'Sorry women, I fucked up.'

At least he doesn't try and pretend it's all a culture war. And he doesn't do an Anneliese Dodds and claim the GRA is one of the towering achievements of any Labour government. So there's that I suppose.

If he really wants to help clear up out his own mess, maybe he could meet with the Labour Women's Declaration as it seems the current leadership are too frit or too lazy to bother.

ArabellaScott · 17/06/2024 12:43

'“Secondly, there may be situations, for example, where you have people who still have male genitalia but are in a changing room with women, and women will feel uncomfortable with that.
“They shouldn’t feel uncomfortable, so you’ve got to protect that.”'

It has nothing to do with whether or not he has his penis removed, Tone. Women don't want to share spaces with men, that's all.

I remind you of your charming ex erstwhile Labour candidate Sarah Jane Baker, who castrated himself in prison, and was recalled for inciting violence towards women.

[edited as I don't think Baker was approved as an official candidate]

Labour MPs attend protest with activist who was jailed for murder bid

Labour MPs have been blasted for sharing a platform with a transgender activist who was previously jailed for attempted murder and kidnap.

The usual about protecting single sex spaces, services and sports but absolutely NO detail on HOW.

Some waffle from Anas Sawar about appropriate guidance, that was what the EqA was supposed to hold and look how that has ended up.

It's not appropriate guidance that is needed it is cold, hard law with sanctions/punishment for those who don't abide by it.

I wish journalists and political interviewers would find their balls and actually ask and not let go until these questions are answered. Also, hold their feet to the fire when they are asked questions about women's rights and instead talk about the alphabet crew and trans rights.

knittin · 17/06/2024 12:54

Kier is busy silencing everyone else and calling any debate “culture wars”

Forester1 · 17/06/2024 13:22

I agree that I don’t think he fully gets it - but still glad to see him raising the issue as helps with the sunlight

duc748 · 17/06/2024 13:27

(Even) in the Telegraph, I hate the terms in which it's presented.

Former PM wades into the transgender debate

There is no 'debate'. This isn't the fucking Oxford Union. There are people who believe in material reality, and people who believe in genderwoo (even though I think the 'true believers' are a pretty small proportion).

LakeTiticaca · 17/06/2024 14:21

Well slap me with a lettuce leaf and call me Vera
Who would have thought that?

Edited

To be fair, men who have "their penis removed", still have male genitalia. Having your genitalia surgically altered doesn't magically turn it into the opposite sexes, it just means you've butchered your cock.

Thats probably not what Blair means though.

CorruptedCauldron · 17/06/2024 15:05

Tony, it’s not really about penises in women’s spaces, it’s about biological males in women’s spaces. A male person, with or without a functioning John Thomas, is still a male person, no matter how he identifies. Sex is real.

Triestre · 17/06/2024 15:06

That stupid man did so much damage. We are still paying for so much non sense. I loathe him so much and Angela Merkel. Couple of idiots.

Yes because that’s probably necessary prior to the election. Let’s hope he speaks out afterwards.

I remember reading some time ago that Blair advised the current Labour Party not to get involved in trans issues because it was a vote loser. You can see how well that's gone 😂

Tbh that's how I saw it. Sorry Tony, it's too little too late.
