Admittedly just a couple of paragraphs in a much longer article, but seems Matt Rudd must have come across some FWR Bristolians or potential PoW voters!
.
“I feel devastated and let down by them,” says a woman who wants to remain anonymous. “I’ve voted Green all my life but now they can’t tell me the difference between a man and a woman.”
“We just want science to be respected,” says her equally infuriated friend. She was a Green volunteer for decades but has now left the party in disgust. “If you see Carla, ask her, ‘Does she accept the recommendations of the Cass Review [of gender transition services at the Tavistock Centre]?’”
“I’ve read the Cass Review,” says Denyer when I ask. “Honestly, I think it’s a mixed bag … there are some common-sense recommendations and I agree with them but I have some concerns about some of it.”
I ask if she is worried she might lose votes by being unclear on this issue — how can you fight for women and girls but also for self-ID?
“I think I am clear,” she says. “I’m a feminist. I recognise there’s still a long way to go on achieving women’s equality and I’m also an ally to trans people because I see there’s a long way to go in achieving equality of rights and dignity for trans people. I’m clear that my rights as a woman are not threatened by trans people.” I wonder if the two angry ex-Greens will find comfort in that answer. I doubt it.
