Very glad he has been found guilty. My thoughts are with his victims.

Season 2 Surprise GIF by PBS

Check out my shocked face.

lcakethereforeIam · 14/06/2024 18:47

He sounds a nasty piece of work. The people who stood as witnesses against him were very brave. I hope they can heal and leave this pos in the past.

INeedAPensieve · 14/06/2024 19:19

This is awful I hope his poor victims are okay, glad justice has been served.

Is Nicola S paying attention? These are the type of people she's attracted to her "cause".

PronounssheRa · 14/06/2024 19:46

My first instinct was to roll my eyes and mutter 'not another fucking one'

Then I read what happened to his victims, and I just hope each heal and go on to have great lives. They are very brave.

Fenlandia · 14/06/2024 23:10

Vile man. Best wishes to his victims.

MyWhoHa · 14/06/2024 23:36

What a poisonous pos. Hopefully he'll be jailed for a long time.

HirplesWithHaggis · 14/06/2024 23:48

"Downing, who told the jury in their evidence that they identified as being non binary , said he hadn’t been threatening the male..."

Interesting use of language there.

redalex261 · 15/06/2024 01:02

Gritting teeth at the continual use of “they” throughout the article. Non binary my big fat arse. Common or garden predator. Hope victims can move on successfully.

"The comments made by Downing came to light after he had been elected as equalities officer for the SNP’s London branch in October 2022. He later resigned from the post."

Why the hell wasn't he sacked immediately rather than allowed to resign?

lcakethereforeIam · 15/06/2024 11:30

As he seems to have made the comments before he was appointed, why was he even given the job?

...oh, SNP...never mind.

DuesToTheDirt · 15/06/2024 12:45

It's sometimes said that the downfall of Labour politicians is generally related to money; for the Tories it's sex scandals.

For SNP and the Greens it seems to be rabid, violent males threatening women. (With in this case some men thrown in for good measure.)

duc748 · 15/06/2024 14:33

(With in this case some men thrown in for good measure.)

So like the Greens to be equal opportunity! 😛

YellowAsteroid · 15/06/2024 16:43

It’s so predictable. Like the closeted gay TV evangelist found with boxes of gay porn under his bed.

ArabellaScott · 16/06/2024 06:30

His poor victims. Thinking of them.

And yes, this is a salient reminder that men who threaten women with violence are not, after all, on the Right Side of History.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 16/06/2024 06:46

Hmm, there's a bit of a pattern emerging here isn't there?

Why the SNP prioritise these woman hating males over actual women and children is beyond me. 😡

334bu · 16/06/2024 07:34

Thanks for link.

A useful thread of Sturgeon's support of several men who have been charged and in some cases found guilty of harassment, assault etc.

In one step forwards and two steps back news, I was pleased to see the NS take Hannah Barnes on its staff, and to read regular pieces by her. Need more of that in the 'nominally left-wing' media. But now Nicola Sturgeon appears to be a regular book reviewer, giving her a platform to give readers the benefit of her wisdom. You'd think as the saying goes, a period of silence from her would be welcome...

Chersfrozenface · 16/07/2024 16:38

He's been sentenced. This from the Evening Standard:

"Downing was imprisoned for six years with a further three years on licence, and was also made the subject of an indefinite non-harassment order in respect of one of the complainers."
https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/high-court-snp-edinburgh-scotland-b1171040.html

I can see naff all on the BBC News Scotland section.

INeedAPensieve · 16/07/2024 16:53

I can't see anything on the BBC news in Scotland either. Glad he's been sentenced now, he sounds awful. No comment from Nicola sturgeon about this as expected? Disgraceful.
