The number of female parliamentary candidates vying to become MPs at the general election has sunk to 30 per cent – sparking criticism women are not properly represented by the political system.

New figures show the number of women candidates has fallen by four per cent since the last election, according to figures by campaign group 50:50 Parliament.

The amount of abuse that women in public life get, this is sadly completely understandable.

I did wonder, and not sure if any one has asked, whether it is as much that, added to which the media intrustion on private life, before even considering if there is a Party you can really feel at home in.

Sad

Good points too! It's very sad. It would be good to encourage more women to stand.

Why would any woman stand?

Look at the treatment of Rosie Duffield.

Before that it was the female MPs who challenged Theresa May over the Brexit Deal.

And before that Jo Cox.

We've had two murdered MPs in the last ten years. And multiple female MPs who have had to take harassers to court for prosecution. Many more have had to review their personal security arrangements.

And STILL there's no condemnation from certain quarters over the intimidation by Trans activists NOR over the harassment of female politicians over their support for Israel or the Jewish community. Even if you disagree with something it doesn't give you licence to behave in this fashion.

5 of the 8 candidates in my constituency are women. Embarrassingly Rosie Frisby Morrell is one of them. This is her "new" political party's website. https://www.everyoneisgod.co.uk/ (I assume she's using the election as a form of advertising??)

Everyone is God | Political party

Everyone is God is a radical political party that has revolutionary policies that fundamentally solve all human problems.

296 of Labour’s 632 candidates are women. not good enough but not too bad.
I'd guess that the Reform party - who are fielding far more candidates than before - don't have many women and this is lowering the total. It only really matter how many Lab/Con/SNP candidates are female, the other parties are too small.

Good lord.

'We are the only political party in the world that uncompromisingly follows all moral values.'

Amazing.

Yes. The one politician who is doing public street campaigning (Farage) has been milkshaked and had missiles thrown.

Its very brave to stand at all, imo.

Rosie Duffield not attending local hustings. See attached.

I hope that a party leader will be along soon to say how awful and anti democratic this is.

Oh FFS and people wonder why women don't get involved in politics.

Has any of Rosies colleagues offered support yet?

Started a new thread for Rosie.

Let's list all the MPs that offer support there.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 14/06/2024 17:56

Last time I looked, 50:50 Parliament said they’d be happy with 50:50 genders and one sex.
