Presumably because they've paid for it, an option open to all parties.

StripedPiggy · 10/06/2024 17:27

MN is a commercial media business which makes money by selling advertising to its customers, just like a newspaper does. In this case, the Labour Party is the customer, they are paying for the advertising space so we, the users see the advert.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 10/06/2024 17:29

It will be a paid advert

This.

cromwell44 · 10/06/2024 17:32

the Labour Party paid for the advert. There are adverts all over this site.

OnceICaughtACold · 10/06/2024 17:32

Presumably because labour have paid for it! Mumsnet has no responsibility to be politically neutral.

IwantToRetire · 10/06/2024 17:39

Well yes of course - but in terms of the site being political neutral would have thought they would avoid taking political ads.

Or maybe mumsnet isn't political neutral. Newspapers aren't.

Will be interesting to see if other parties also dip into their campaign funds and have an ad, I suppose.

Lets hope that Labour in thinking mumsnet is a target group have read the mumsnet manifesto.

(As an ad its just so effing huge I felt I was being shouted at!)

Have mumsnet declared they are politically neutral? And if they have as long as they run adverts from other parties if the other parties pay them thats fine.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 10/06/2024 17:42

Advertising isn't endorsement

wutheringkites · 10/06/2024 17:43

Because David Evans paid for it?

Pay lots, get a big ad. Money is money. Mumsnet is a major platform and would quickly get into difficulty if it started picking and choosing who to accept advertising from.

We're probably not going to see a Conservative ad though. The party has run out of money, allegedly.

wutheringkites · 10/06/2024 17:43

Because David Evans paid for it?

Is that through his wife's campaign company?

Or have I misunderstood your point?

I'm not seeing the Labour ad, BTW. They must be targeting marginals to use the budget more effectively. My constituency has a solid Labour majority.

Presumably ‘politically neutral’ means that MN are happy to carry paid advertising from any mainstream political party. So if the Tories want to pay for a similar ad, they would be welcome to do so.
I read that Labour paid for a full page advert in the Daily Mail recently, a newspaper which is politically hostile never mind neutral.

Interesting - maybe ads at the top of the index page of forums rotate.

I am in a rock solid Labour seat.

The Labour Party possibly hasn't realised what a nest of vipers they're helping to finance 😀

My constituency is Tory/LD marginal and i've seen the ads too.

I'm seeing it and we have had the same labour mp since 1997 so definitely not just paying for marginal seats. Im late 30s with kids in nursery so it's maybe by demographic rather than location?

Does mumsnet have that data about us?

I cant remember when signing up giving any such info, so maybe based on which threads get the most interaction.

(I suspect FWR isn't the must used on mumsnet)

Have they paid for the whole six weeks ?I doudt you you know this ?

Thelnebriati · 10/06/2024 22:36

Does Mumsnet control the ads, or do they sell advertising space through an agency?

Myalternate · 10/06/2024 22:43

I don’t see any ads 👏

SheilaFentiman · 10/06/2024 22:53

The banner ads rotate. A minute ago I got the Labour ad (nursery places) and now i have a car ad.

Just as Pampers and Flora have identified MN in the past as a place to reach their target demographic, Labour are doing it now. Educated, politically engaged, largely parents, very likely to vote - WNTL about the MN user base?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 11/06/2024 00:08

Oh FFS! I read this & felt smug that I hadn't seen the ad. Then I went to another thread & guess what?

It's AWFUL. A banner would be one thing, but this is a whole red screen with a bit of MN in the middle.

Definitely don't want them to win now. 😂

So is mine - even survived the fall of the red wall. Still got the very big, very aggressively red ad.

My kids also finished nursery when Shiny Dave was a fairly new PM.

I think that was partly why I reacted immediately. It felt like an intrusion into a support space for women.

And strangely, even though I didn't identify KS as he has been so burnished that he could be anyone, it was having what seemed a pompous man lecturing from the top of the page.

Most ads at the head of the forum are quiet on plain white background.

This felt like being encompassed.

So as an ad it not only didn't work for me, but in fact positively turned me off.

Not that it makes any difference as I live in area that is virtually all Labour.

And even though there have been some boundary changes, doubt much will change as nearby constituencies are the same.
