The mystery continues. Will it be Brighton, Birmingham, Bristol or none of the above?

What reasons does that site have for predicting that the seat is going to suddenly swing from a massive Labour majority to a massive Green majority? Debbonaire got almost 60% of the vote last time. Now the Greens are supposedly going to shoot up from 25% to over 50?

There are local voters on the thread who could confirm, but think it’s based on the local elections and boundary changes . Greens did very well in Bristol and the constituency has been redrawn

cariadlet · 10/06/2024 07:11

I know a couple of Greens who live in Bristol and say that it's our best chance out of the 4 targeted seats.

Bristol Greens are well funded compared with other local parties, very well organised and have been campaigning for months.

Carla's prospective constituency is in the part of the city where Greens did very well in the Locals. Lots of students and young, middle class voters who are likely to vote Green.

I really hope that KJK sturs things up, shines a light on the lunatics in the Green Party and that Labour hold the seat but it's very important that they aren't complacent.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/06/2024 07:20

I'm not sure extrapolating local election results to national ones works, tbh. Our council is Labour, has been for years and years. They've never got a sniff at the parliamentary seat!

BezMills · 10/06/2024 07:27

Politics makes strange bedfellows. I'm kind of rooting for the MegaTories (Reform) and the Lunatic Fringe Nationalists (AFD) in my constituency because they're likely to eat into the incumbent's vote share (Bob Seely, Con)

Really? I thought Brighton where they already have a seat? Do they think it's likely to go to Labour?

Emily Thornberry has skin in the game, IIRC, with a trans relative (MtF).

Emily Thornberry's trans relative is female.

Ah, I recalled incorrectly. Though was right that she has skin in the game!

I suspect that more than a few do have young realatives caught up in the trans madness.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/06/2024 09:31

Yes, most Labour (and other mainstream) politicians are middle class, and it's a middle class thing.

CassieMaddox · 10/06/2024 09:35

It is really distasteful to trawl through peoples family to find trans relatives and then claim they have "skin in the game".

You have no idea at all about people's family set up and how they feel about relatives transition. And the trans person in question is not in the public eye and deserves their privacy. It's low behaviour to speculate like that.

Perhaps Emily Thornberry should have considered that before telling the world about her cousin.

It's so widespread that it's likely that many of them do, like Stephen Kinnock.

Yes, most Labour (and other mainstream) politicians are middle class, and it's a middle class thing.

This is a bit of a cliche - looked after children were over represented in referrals to GIDS and Blackpool had one of the highest referral rates in the country. Trans ID isn’t just a middle class thing, those are just the people who get into the media.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/06/2024 10:08

The high number of "looked after children" should be ringing alarm bells.

SinnerBoy · 10/06/2024 12:25

"Emily Thornberry has backed the Labour leader's stance in a row over whether only women have cervixes."

Oh dear, BBC, the plural of cervix is cervices. 3/10

I've heard that a lot of people think things will be very close between Green and Labour in Brighton Pavilion.

Caroline Lucas had personal support as well as people who voted for her because she was a Green. Sian doesn't have that. Some people have said that a lot of locals see her as a Londoner (which she is).

Greens are throwing a lot of manpower at Brighton (lots of leafletting with volunteers coming from outside Brighton to support Action Days) but it might not be enough.

I'm amazed that post hasn't been reported / deleted given a certain somebody's response to it being mentioned!

As a Green Party member who despairs of the TRA takeover of my party and can't stand Carla Denyer, I really hope that's the case.

Yes and she was diabolical in the recent debate.

Well you cant undo what is already done.

If Thronberry have put this fact into the public domain, then it is there.

But to get back to why I mentioned her, it was because she is / was the MP for one of the constituencies where a PoW candidate is standing.

Just to add I think where the PoW candidates are standing I think has far more to do with who is brave enough to put themselves forward and where they live.

Yes, I was pleased to see this yesterday. Lucky coincidence, as you're right about why people are standing where they are (I'm a party member so have access to the forum where the candidates were discussing it).
