WineIsMyCarb · 01/06/2024 07:14

Bbc Sussex has described trans identified male murderer as 'woman' throughout story, with no reference at all to his sex or trans identity.

If you wish to complain about this inaccurate reporting of a male's violent crime, the bbc's complaints link is here:

Brighton: Woman, 70, in court over husband's death

Emergency services were called to a flat where the victim was pronounced dead, police say.

To be fair, the bbc article is illustrated with a photo of the accused being escorted into a police vehicle whilst clearly being a bloke in a blond wig with a bit of five oclock shadow.

Do you have personal knowledge that this person is trans?

The media outlets are just republishing information released by the police, they won't have done any research into the people involved.

Haven't we learnt from a recent thread not to jump to conclusions just because someone looks like a masculine woman in a photo?

Not saying that's the case here, as some media sources seem to know more about the accused's personal background than the likes of the BBC etc.

PronounssheRa · 01/06/2024 07:48

The accused worked for the Brighton and Hove LGBT Community Safety Forum and as a Transgender rep with civil service LGBT group Proud.

Complained. Thanks!

Cite IPSO editors code clause 1 - Accuracy- while complaining.

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 01/06/2024 08:07

Complained thanks. Absolutely sick of the BBC.

That's why I checked to see if any other sources had reported that this person is male. It turns out that the Mail seems to have done a bit more research than the BBC.

You can stand down, this person is male.

Lodged a complaint (I hope) the first time I have done so, it won't be the last!!

That's not being fair, that's being generous. How hard is it for them to write 'transwoman'. It is a precise and accurate term. A man who thinks he is a woman.

JustPleachy · 01/06/2024 08:35

This was the response the last time I complained:

”BBC reporting in this area follows the publicly available BBC News style guide. It says: “We generally use the term and pronoun preferred by the person in question, unless there are editorial reasons not to do so.””

When I pushed further they said the person had been “tried as a woman and the pronoun ‘she’ was used throughout.”

Scavernick · 01/06/2024 08:36

Another 'female' crime no doubt.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 01/06/2024 08:39

Using "woman" without clarifiying that the accused is male is misleading and inaccurate. Thanks for the heads-up about IPSO and accuracy.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 01/06/2024 09:09

Fucksake!

did they learn nothing from
the scarlet Blake debacle?

do they even hear how ludicrous they sound “this person was tried as a woman” so what? They’re still a fucking man!

so another violent crime inaccurately recorded as being carried out by a woman then

WarriorN · 01/06/2024 09:18

I'm sure it's one of these sorts of cases a day now. 'Woman' convicted for <enter extremely violent murder and/ or sexually motivated crime>.

mrshoho · 01/06/2024 09:19

Thanks, I have complained. Blatant inaccurate reporting.

According to Malcolm Clark, the lovely Joanna was an adviser to the police on domestic violence. There's a little clip of Joanna talking about the importance of safe spaces:

I think we need to complain directly to Tim Davie - remember at the select committee he said he was totally unaware of any complaints around this issue liar

Oh my fucking word. Well that is awkward. Perhaps the bbc would like to delve further.

Also appears to have been involved with Brighton Councils LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Trans) housing strategy and Brighton unis 'domestic violence and abuse count me in' research.

There is a lots of info online about this person

MagnetCarHair · 01/06/2024 10:11

I'm so sick of this shit.

mrshoho · 01/06/2024 10:13

We're going to have to build a prison to house all these trans criminals at this rate. In the meantime I take it Joanna will be residing in a male prison.

Oh, I shouldn't think so. Heaven forbid they actually do any proper fucking journalism.

Can you imagine the tantrums when they're told that they are being sent to a women's prison and it's just got other transwomen in there?
