#GE2024 Hustings - Children's Safeguarding

TopTailor · 29/05/2024 14:52

Is anyone interested in joining me in an email version of election hustings for candidates in their constituencies? I'm interested in asking candidates if they'll pledge their support for 4 key children's safeguarding actions. With the responses, a brief letter can be sent to the local & regional newspapers so a wider audience will know if their candidates support children's safeguarding.

Yes please!

Lovelyview · 29/05/2024 15:15

Happy to be involved 🙂

This is my first time for writing anything on MN so please bear with. How does it work?

I'm in!

TopTailor · 29/05/2024 15:41

Ok-that worked. Leafstamp and Lovelyview thank you for saying yes!

Thanks @WarriorN @Leafstamp @Lovelyview
How do we privately share which constituency we live in and our email address?

These are the 4 pledges:
I pledge to support the full implementation of:
1. The Cass Review
2. Gender Questioning Children Guidance for Schools
3. Relationships and Sex Education Review 2024 as statutory guidance
4. The Children who are LGB or Gender Questioning draft content in Keeping Children Safe In Education 2024

Could you supply links for the documents? I'm not sure how to share private information though. For personal reasons I'm not currently happy to share my views publically in my community (eg on Facebook or a letter to the editor) although I'm happy to write to candidates directly. Not sure how to take that forward.

There is a DM (PM) function on MN - click the three dots at the top right of a person's post.

I also won't be sharing email or which constituency I'm in here, but I might be able to post any candidate responses anonymously on twitter.

@Lovelyview I understand and wouldn't want to endanger anyone's privacy.
I haven't made a template - it would be a case of write the same brief email to all candidates:

'To help me make a decision about how to vote in the General Election, I would like to know if you will agree to support these 4 pledges if you are elected as the MP for xxxxxx :
I pledge to support the full implementation of:
1. The Cass Review
2. Gender Questioning Children Guidance for Schools
3. Relationships and Sex Education Review 2024 as statutory guidance
4. The Children who are LGB or Gender Questioning draft content in Keeping Children Safe In Education 2024
^^
I look forward to hearing from you.

If you don't know the candidate names/email address I can help (final date for declaring intention to stand is by 7th June)
I would write to the newspaper for your constituency if you posted back to me what you'd received.
I am making a spreadsheet to plan the hustings and to catalogue responses.

@Leafstamp Thanks for the tip re DM/PM.
Publicity is the reason for doing this - the Conservatives did eventually listen to the whistleblowers and realise that schools and healthcare were becoming like the Wild West so whoever assumes power should pick up these 4 actions and do more!
It's also for candidates to understand the issues that us mums think are important, so posting anon on Twitter would be great. If you want any help with finding your candidates or want to feedback to me in complete anonymity, please DM/PM me.

I would be happy to do this. This is a hill I’m prepared to die on.
