So The Women Who Wouldn't Wheesht book is out tomorrow (I have pre-ordered) and The Times today includes an extract from JK's chapter in which she lays out with searing honesty why she decided to speak out about the issue, and how the subsequent online monstering felt.

I raised a wry smile at this part:

"People who’d worked with me rushed to distance themselves from me or to add their public condemnation of my blasphemous views (though I should add that many former and current colleagues have been staunchly supportive). In truth, the condemnation of certain individuals was far less surprising to me than the fact that some of them then emailed me, or sent messages through third parties, to check that we were still friends."

Can't help but wonder if it's Radcliff or Watson she's referring to here!

Who else has the book on pre-order and what are we looking forward to most about it?

Aww this is good news re. your brother! This is one of the things that bothers me about gender ideology; how anti-gay a lot of the stuff is yet inexplicably a lot of gay men and lesbians don't (or won't) see the issues.

The book has landed. I have promised myself I'll finish my current book, which is unengaging but not unengaging enough not to finish, before getting started on it.

Got my copy today. I’m about to make a cup of tea and head for the sofa for a read.

As I understand it from him, there's a big difference in attitude between 'scene gays' (ie the guys who go to all the right clubs and get on the floats at Pride) and the 'non-scene gays' (ie people like my brother who love and sleep with men but don't regard gayness as the main facet of their personality, or even necessarily the most interesting thing about them).

the former tend to be very pro-T and anti-terf, the latter more nuanced or even terfy.

He doesn't know why this is although he speculates group think and also because 'scene gays' are more likely to work in a 'gay job' (his words not mine!) for a gay charity, not-for-profit or in the arts and media, where being rabidly pro-T is kind of de rigeur.

I thought of you all when this was my view on the first table through the door at Waterstones earlier!

Can't complain it's not on prominent display, then! I meant to look in the Waterstones here today, but I didn't get round to it, will have a look tomorrow.
