one thing I have def noticed is several of the contestants are deeply troubled / sad individuals who have often had very difficult lives and I wonder if this is a factor in their life choices.

This horrific. It almost seems worse that is a women degrading other women in this way. You can't just cut your boobs off and then suddenly you're a man. Cancer survives who have had this tough surgery are men, they are still very much women - it is so offensive to imply otherwise.
