'Claudia Macdonald-Bruce – GCRC Director, issues the following update on behalf of GCRC Board and Management Team.“Glasgow and Clyde Rape Crisis is often confused with other rape crisis centres or organisations in Scotland. However, we are an independent organisation, that has separate governance, leadership, strategic focus, and service areas.

Therefore, I want to provide reassurance that our services for women and girls who have survived rape or sexual abuse continue to operate as we always have, and we are available in all the local authority areas we serve. For the avoidance of any doubt, these are Glasgow, East and West Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire, and Inverclyde. We are here for women and girls who need us, and we will continue to be.

Glasgow and Clyde Rape Crisis continues to be open and clear on our purpose, mission, and vision. All this information is easily accessible on our website. We are an organisation that is rooted in feminist values. Our culture, from how we are led and governed, to how we deliver our services is guided by these values. This prioritises the provision and safeguarding of single-sex service spaces as we recognise the prevalence of rape and sexual abuse experienced by women is predominantly perpetrated by men. This requires and deserves our specialist, dedicated and safe services provided by women and for women. We understand and have lived with this relationship between male power and control and women’s unequal status in our society.”

For more information on GCRC’s purpose, mission, and vision – see the Get Informed page on our website.'

Standing ovation. Thank you, GCRC.

There is a 'donate' button on their website, btw.

This is how a service that centres users responds.

Watch and learn, RCS and ERCC.

Excellent

SirChenjins · 22/05/2024 13:06

Excellent - exactly how a rape crisis centre should function. I hope MW and his acolytes are watching and learning.

terryleather · 22/05/2024 13:09

I seem to remember we had a thread a good while (years?) back about GCRC stance and in light of that I started donating in support of them...however in the back of my mind I always wondered if they meant what they said about supporting single sex services for women & girls so this is good to hear.

They won't care.

Centering themselves and their identities and validating themselves and others like them with their activism is the whole point.

lechiffre55 · 22/05/2024 13:16

I got two thirds of the way through before single-sex was mentioned. I feared this was going the other way. Glad it ended the way it did. Unhappy I live in a world where single-sex support for rape victims is a coin toss.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 22/05/2024 13:16

What a brilliant statement. A rape crisis centre centring women - just as they used to. Flowers

WeMeetInFairIthilien · 22/05/2024 13:20

Bellissima!

GeorgeOrwellsTurningGrave · 22/05/2024 13:30

As it should be. I'm happy to see this and equally depressed that this has become the radical stance.

Women and girls want their stuff back.

Yes, I fear you’re right - the culty brainwashing runs deep.

I'd rather they just buggered off.

CountingCrones · 22/05/2024 14:46

Off to donate - what an encouraging statement!

Rainbowshit · 22/05/2024 15:15

Brilliant! I will send them some support

PronounsBaby · 22/05/2024 17:47

Thanks for sharing Arabella. How very encouraging

Oi, Survivors Network. This is feminism, not the rubbish you spout.

Same, was waiting for the word 'inclusive' to appear.

INeedAPensieve · 22/05/2024 18:51

This sounds very promising. And as it should be.

I just can't believe it had to be said in the first place. I'm actually beyond angry at MW and all those people who enabled MW (sadly many of them women). The betrayal of other women more vulnerable than them is just unfathomable to me.

BlackForestCake · 22/05/2024 19:36

Do they still get state funding? If so, how do they get away with not promising to be "inclusive" ?

Yes, this is a good point and one I am interested in. As I understand it, Scottish Government funding means you have to sign up to the whole TWAW mantra which means you couldn't offer single-sex provision.

Seadragonusgiganticusmaximus · 22/05/2024 20:14

From their accounts, it seems they get substantial funding from the Scottish Government.

In the position statements linked by a PP, the final paragraph of the section on single sex spaces on page 5 suggests that they don’t always provide single sex spaces but will do if they think appropriate. (I don’t seem to be able to copy and paste.)
