Local Authority SEEN - A Sex Equality and Equity Network for local government employees

A new SEEN network has dropped and a really important one. Local Authorities are a huge battle front with control over child care. education, libraries, social care and much else.

Local Authority SEEN
We are a network of staff in local authorities committed to upholding the importance of biological sex and sex-based rights, as defined by the Equality Act 2010.

We have no political, religious or organisational affiliation.

We came together because of increasing frustration at policies and practises implemented within our local authorities, where the concept of ‘gender identity’ is often presented as uncontested fact.

We are run by a core group of volunteers, drawn from local authorities across the UK. As we grow our governance and membership structures will also change and develop.

Membership is open to staff from local authorities (including borough councils, county councils, combined authorities, and town and parish councils) who share our aims and principles.

Brilliant and much needed!

Excellent news! LAs have huge clout throughout society, so it’s great staff who don’t believe in gender woowoo will have something at their backs if they come under pressure. Let’s face it, the unions are in thrall to gender identity ideology and are liberally staffed by zealots so don’t tend to support staff on the issue.

Fab-u-lous!

I'd really like to see a charity SEEN, especially as lots of vulnerable adults are supported by charities

happydappy2 · 21/05/2024 12:18

If there was a Charity SEEN that would be great. I stopped my donation to action aid specifically because of their maddening trans (male) inclusive policies. Girl Guides needs to change their policy as well before a child gets hurt.

I have joined today, just bumping this as I have lots of colleagues who are still unaware that there is now a SEEN for us!

motheronthedancefloor · 11/06/2024 22:48

How does one even set up a SEEN? and how does one manage it / keep themselves anonymous / safe?

redalex261 · 12/06/2024 00:31

If you work for a government dept or a named LA there will be an overarching one granted (grudging) permission to operate -ie Civil Service - any civil servant can join, then individual depts like Home Office, DEFRA, DWP etc. can ask permission to set up department specific “branches” as part of staff networks, like the DWP version for instance. There is resistance to this, but it can be done! I assume for councils it would be via something like COSLA (in Scotland) as overarching one then separate councils like Renfrewshire etc can ask permission to set up their own staff specific group.

Is there an NHS version - so trusts could have them? That would be quite a thing!

There are a huge number of SEEN networks now a Civil Service which started the idea, an NHS/Health, a STEM seen, Police Seen, Sport, journalism, Parliament, Sport, Schools, Finance/City, and HR Seen.

Depends on the area on how they work. Local government one aims to link people to create a network in every UK council.
