That's great to see.

Tallisker · 11/05/2024 11:31

Wow!

RethinkingLife · 11/05/2024 11:57

Are all the other SEEN sites on github?

It will be interesting to see how the launch goes.

NHS is so toxic and many parts of it are resisting Cass so I can understand why people would be wary about signing up.

I wish it well.

WaverleyOwl · 11/05/2024 12:23

This is soooo needed - congratulations on the launch today!

There are so many people who are on the brink of losing the job for simply saying a word woman in NHS, it's an absolute joke. Can't thank enough all the brave people who are involved in setting it up.

Wary about signing up?? 😂

From the unbridled enthusiasm I have seen so far, people are getting knocked over in the stampede to join!

The NHS is a huge organisation and the vast majority of staff will be breathing a huge sigh of relief at the launch of "SEEN in Health".

The vast majority of NHS staff and management will also be completely unaware of Cass as it is completely irrelevant to them in their personal and professional lives.

Is this safe to sign up for?
I am NHS but am forced to do Ally training this week. I have to wear a rainbow lanyard and see chest feeding in my workplace literature.
I work with women and children and so worried about how women are being referred to.
But I can't afford to lose my job.

You have a legal right to believe that sex is binary, fixed and immutable, and sometimes matters. That is a protected belief under the Equality Act. Your employer would be breaking the law if they discriminate against you for that belief, and SEEN is part of how we remind them and each other about that.

It is completely up to you whether you join SEEN or not, and unless you choose to tell them then your employer won't know you are a member.

Have a look at their website - they take privacy very seriously.

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain - at the very least a community of like-minded people who have the same concerns as you and can provide support.

I’m not now NHS but the issues are in my clinic, part of a small empire (not mine!). Can I still join?

WaverleyOwl · 11/05/2024 21:12

I think it's just NHS just now, but post on their Twitter feed and it will get picked up and answered.

Seriestwo · 11/05/2024 21:13

Thanks.

I’m not NHS but civil service. I’ve joined the civil service generic SEEN. There is no departmental SEEN at my outfit yet, but it’s in progress. Hope it spreads across all departments/ministries quickly as it’s really necessary. My department seems to be edging away from the worst of the overt Stonewallish guff, but there’s still loads of shady lingo and internal ra-ra yahoos in DEI jobs wedded to the cult.

I had messaged to see why SEEN wasn’t being promoted as a staff network internally. After being ignored a couple of times eventually got a sniffy reply about not promoting generic civil service wide networks but only those with a departmental chapter.

The more rank and file staff who join SEEN the less grounds they have ignoring us and for hanging onto the gender woo and language.

I mean, my department manages to promote every conceivable niche staff network down to the Pagan Staff Network (FGS, how many members can there be?) internally, but ignores SEEN.

^ pretty much the same here

The Telegraph are reporting that cicil service DEI posts will be scrapped with no new posts and current post holders moved into other roles. Remains to be seen whether this will actually happen but if it does, it should begin to put a stop to the relentless torrent of irrelevant initiatives and hopefully make it a safer environment for everyone.

Civil Service diversity jobs will be scrapped

Radical overhaul will forbid managers from hiring any new staff dedicated to boosting equality and inclusion

I won't hold my breath. EDI is very powerful here.

In case any Physios on FWR have not seen this in Mumsnet HCP Chat:

Physiotherapy SEEN
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/doctors_nurses_and_other_hcps_chat_/5048133-physiotherapy-seen

Thread started by VenusEnvyXX aka Gussie Grips aka Elaine Miller.

Physio SEEN not up and running yet but there is a lot of interest due to the Chartered Soc of Physio (prof body and trade union) threatening to "eradicate transphobia" from the profession. Sounds a worthy cause except they conflate gender critical views with transphobia.
