Hypocrisy in Australia

Australia tries to stop a violence against women 'epidemic', starting with schools www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-68989354

Let's make Australia safer for women through teaching about consent. Let's make Australia less misogynistic through making sport more welcoming to women - by making the changing rooms 'inclusive'. No mention of what this actually means. Most readers will think they're allowing women to play Aussie Rules Footie, so they're making the changing rooms inclusive of women by building changing rooms for women. The truth is so outrageous, so anti-inclusion, so misogynistic, that it sounds like conspiracy theory.

Hypocrisy from Australian sport. Hypocrisy from the BBC.

I have been heartened to see the Bats Football team still being discussed. And young women competitors being clear about their issues with 5 males on the team.

However, I think most of my friends and family don’t even come across the issue discussed outside of sport. So, it may not occur to them what is happening. Those who do, agree with the feminist stance but feel the women complaining are too blunt and unkind.

Pretty much what I thought when I read that report.

I agree @JellySaurus and find the cognitive dissonance of the various Australian governments and media enraging. They proclaim the (entirely justified) need to respect and protect women and children from violence, yet at the same time are quite ready to throw women’s hard won rights under the bus and ignore safeguarding in order to pander to TRAs and to demonise any women who raise their legitimate concerns. I sometimes feel like I’m living in a parallel universe!!

Case in point as noted by Sal Grover on Twitter who points out the hypocrisy of our Attorney General lamenting the crisis of male violence yet oversaw the erasure of women’s legal rights in Australia
