JKR, are you here?

OP posts:
MsFenellaFielding · 13/05/2024 08:10

NOT Thank you x

MsFenellaFielding · 13/05/2024 08:11

Bloody hell, that should read JKR Thank you x

BettyUnderswoob · 13/05/2024 08:39

If you are here, JK, thanks for all you've done - and continue to do - for women and girls.

FannyCann · 13/05/2024 09:06

Sorry if it's been mentioned but did I imagine it or did Mumsnet get a mention in mine of the books? The Inkblack Heart maybe?
I have a vague memory of Strike contemplating taking a look and deciding it was the wrong demographic for the person he was searching for. Or was that just Mumsnet fantasy chat that I've remembered?

FannyCann · 13/05/2024 09:23

Also I love how she name checks businesses that help with her research and sprinkles a little JKR fairy dust on them. A jeweller in Sark is the latest. Strike's half sister Prudence treated them to a meal at Il Portico, a restaurant much beloved by JKR.

I am just reading Career of Evil as I only started reading the Strike books with Troubled Blood and recently decided to go back to the beginning. Anyway Strike buys a venison pie from the renowned butcher in Melrose. I bet she thought she was supporting the trans butcher. And then he did that awful crime.....
She wrote it in 2015 and probably wasn't as up with the knowledge as she is now, her be kind moment sadly misjudged, but that is the route so many of us take on the way to the top of the mountain.

I like to think Rowling posts as MishyDJ or DadJoke. For a laugh, like.

I’m not JKR but as someone who makes a glass of milk look tanned I recommend Il Makiage.

Thank you my fellow 👻 😄x

Love JKR and her bravery. Also love the Strike books and of course HP. Looking forward to the HBO HP tv series without the ungrateful brats.

worryworrysuperscurry · 13/05/2024 11:22

I would be highly surprised if she isn't!

I've only read casual vacancy, are her other adult books good?

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 13/05/2024 13:19

I really enjoyed the Strike series first then decided to read the books which are much better as most books usually are. However the series is still definitely worth a watch if you haven’t already.

I haven't! Will look it up, always looking for new shows

@FannyCann I think I remember Robyn goes on Mumsnet to try to locate a witness who would be the age of the mumsnet demographic.

I'm fairly sure it was Ink Black Heart.

GuppytheCat · 13/05/2024 15:22

Robyn goes on Mumsnet to try to locate a witness

Hmm, can't see how that would help unless the witness was a chronic over sharer of real-life information.

But she probably didn't know that until she'd already wasted several hours on FWR and threads about Suzi Quattro's fat nan.

FannyCann · 13/05/2024 15:26

Pretty sure there was discussion about how Strike would have been totally at sea finding his way around Mumsnet. Makes sense she delegated the job to Robin! 🤣

I hope you are right, but given her appearance at FiLia it seem she might have been influenced to think that we aren't the right kind of feminists because we are able to say we support KJK and other women who as individuals speak out, and aren't desperate to get the certified handmaiden of the badge.

So the suggestion that she is posting as MishyDJ or DadJoke might be her kindly meant intention to get us back in line. Grin

(NB before anyone doesn't realise it is a joke, I think even without the politics to suggest that would be an insulting to her writing skills - or maybe that is the extent of those skills that she could effortlessly reproduce patronising bombast? Confused )

I think it was Robin using initiative. I'll have to look back. Or I might be wrong and it could have been facebook I'm thinking of as Guppy says it would have to be oversharing.

But yes I do remember reading something about mumsnet in there and thinking about it. The problem is I listen to audio books so can't easily check back!

Midgegreenstreet · 13/05/2024 19:57

Way back when JKR first posted about women's rights I sent her a card via her publishers to thank her for sticking her head above the parapet. I'd never read any of her books and at that point I had no real skin in the game (other than being female and having a daughter).

Fast forward a few years - I have a child who believes they have gender dysphoria (and all the crap that entails) and, after buying Ink Black Heart from a second hand book stall in 2023, I'm now completely obsessed with Strike. Thank you Jo for your fabulous world building books, take no prisoners attitude and drawing attention to the shockingly bad healthcare available to vulnerable people. A true inspiration.

Citrusandginger · 13/05/2024 21:32

She really has the most insightful empathy. I remember reading something in the HP books that had happened to me as a child, and she absolutely nailed how I had felt, but had never been able to articulate.

She is a breathtakingly canny woman.

LauderSyme · 13/05/2024 21:43

@GuppytheCat Thank you for reminding me of Suzi Quattro's fat nan, so funny😁

I have JKR and Stephen Fry (and Audible I suppose) to thank for getting my autistic son to lie down and go to sleep every night (and I do mean every night) for a good 5 years.

mrshoho · 13/05/2024 22:34

👋JKR our Queen. A million thanks from me. Keep doing what you do so brilliantly and with such wit and grace. 💐

Karensalright · 13/05/2024 22:42

@mrshoho What do you mean “Queen” I thought we were in an autonomous collective, you are oppressing me now😁

quantumbutterfly · 13/05/2024 23:13

vipers don't have a queen, drones do...and we are not drones
