JKR, are you here?

OP posts:
May2024 · 11/05/2024 09:53

Yeah I think she's here. As a regular poster. Probably (like me) changes her username monthly.

Jo you're incredible thank you!

The descriptions she includes in the Strike books of real places, hotels, cafes etc make me wonder if she does check into Premier Inns and have trips around Barrow or Melrose dressed as a normal person.

She clearly does her research when writing.

Probably lightly disguised with hair chalk and coloured contact lenses.

She’s had 20 years of working with special effects people. I bet she has some great disguises for picking up her Chinese in Blackhall

In case she's lurking I'd want her to know she made my quite difficult childhood completely magical with her books - I can't imagine it without them - she was my hero then and is now for different reasons but the common thread is COURAGE. I hope to have children and grandchildren that will read her books and that the girls will always stand up for themselves and for justice as her female characters have, and as she has. History will honour her (actual right side!) ♥️ sorry to be so bloody earnest on MN but I mean it... I would of course also like to know if she has any zoflora tips 😉

AH LOVE A WEE SEANCE AW THAT KNOCKIN

You'd better get back to writing YOUR book @RealFeminist

AmadeustheAlpaca · 11/05/2024 11:58

I love all the little details in the books, the haunted toilet in HP, a suspect in Strike watching Say Yes to the Dress, Aunt Petunia giving her kitchen worktops a pre bedtime wipe down, and I've worked with lots of Pats. She's very observant of ordinary life and clearly loves people. As a previous poster has said, I admire her courage so much. It must have been extremely difficult to cope emotionally with all your "friends" turning against you and publicly denouncing your well thought out reasonable views and all the threats to you and your family.

OutOfTheHouse · 11/05/2024 12:20

The thing is if you did see her picking up her Chinese takeaway then you most likely wouldn’t believe it was her. So if you did ask if she was JKR and she replied something along the lines of ‘getting that all the time’ then you’d believe her.

Paul McCartney said that when he’s on the tube in London and someone says ‘are you Paul McCartney?’ he says ‘no, but I wish I had his money’. And they leave him alone.

A WEE PRAWN CRACKER IS MUCH OF A MUCHNESS WHEREVER YES GET IT

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 11/05/2024 12:28

I love her. She's FIERCE. I hope she knows how appreciated & valued she is.

I was listening to a new Taylor Swift song called Cassandra that really made me think of JKR.
I'm hoping she is writing her books and ignoring all the nonsense.

It's interesting you would mention Taylor Swift & The Tortured Poets Department, as Taylor is having an era of female rage at the moment due to the harm the music industry has caused her (it's just masquerading as an album about ex boyfriends because that's what she writes best)

So for JKR or any other raging women reading this, I would highly recommend checking out TTPD because "I'll tell you something right now - I'd rather burn my whole life down than listen to one more second of all this bitching and moaning" is a pretty good motto for all of us.

Desdemona44 · 11/05/2024 13:04

I love to think of JKR posting here!

I love the strike books, and the Harry Potter series is my all time favourite, but the casual vacancy is criminally underrated and I would love it if she wrote more stand alone books like it. The way she sees the nuances in people's interactions and motivations is incredible.

PurpleBugz · 11/05/2024 14:21

I hope she at least has a look in occasionally. Can't be easy to live with all the hate she gets I'd like to think she knows that real women think she's amazing and we are grateful she uses her position to speak for us not cave to peer pressure like many celebs

She does! This March, she and her husband (and small entourage) went to Sark to checkout what it is like at that time of year. Could be wrong but think she stayed in a B&B, the sort of place that Strike would stay in rather than one of the hotels. She wasn't in disguise, everyone loved her and she made time to meet up with a local women's group in Guernsey, for tea. Everyone was v excited.
(Google JK Rowling Sark)

Mochudubh · 11/05/2024 17:02

I've never met her but my late mum used to occasionally see her in the local co-op. Said she was very "normal".

From my mum, that was a compliment.

TallYellowMouse · 11/05/2024 17:11

👋 Jo if you are here 💕
When I grow up I want to be Pat from Strike. She is so decent. I love Ruth Sheen - she's wonderful in every part she plays!

Boiledbeetle · 10/05/2024 22:14

It would be really funny if it turned out she was @RealFeminist

I have my suspicions...

VeraForever · 11/05/2024 17:29

I hope she's seeing this thread and feels the love.

I used to think LangCleg was our Jo, but I'm probably very wrong.

Haha! I'll tell Lang that.

TinselAngel · 11/05/2024 18:34

I e always thought JKR is OldCrone.

BiggerBoat1 · 11/05/2024 18:37

If you’re in here JKR thank you for getting so many children excited about reading. I absolutely do not agree with your views on trans issues but I respect your courage in expressing them and admire your eloquence.

There is no way that a UK based GC legend has never popped onto the F:S&G board.

No way.

It's the equivalent of an emotional support animal.

Jo, I hope you have found our silky old lady moustaches soothing in challenging times.

LizzieSiddal · 11/05/2024 19:58

That woman has ruined me. I finished Running Grave last month and every other book I’ve picked up since is inferior and inadequate in comparison.
So whilst I love her for all she does for women, I do need another book to read.

INeedAPensieve · 11/05/2024 21:29

Thank you for all you've done Joanne (if you are a lurker on these boards).

As the Scottish mum of a vulnerable autistic wee boy, your bravery and "constant vigilance"(as Mad Eye Moody would say) against the erosion of child safeguarding and women and girl's rights makes me so grateful.

I can't wait to start reading both my DC all of the Harry Potter books when they are old enough.

A legend. 💐🐘
Also randomly my phone has added an elephant to my message and I can't seem to delete it!!!! So it remains...
