I haven't seen anything about gender at all in the North East Mayoral election. If India Willoughby thinks Jamie Driscoll is a good candidate that presumably means he thinks trans women are women. Anyone know?

IW said on Twitter last night that they'd die at the scene of their illness or injury if they weren't permitted to use a female ward.
Sounds like reasonable, healthy adult behaviour. 😲😲

Is that the same India Willoughby that told Question Time that if India was raped India would want to go to a women's prison?

Between a rock and a hard place here.
Just read all their biogs on a website, 🤔

Just read now that it's a close run thing on the Mayor vote, so it does matter.
I'm tending towards Jamie. Mam was involved in women's shelters from DV, wife is a doctor, so hopefully he's got a bit of common sense.

I've voted for Driscoll. He speaks about his roots informing his position, including his mum's work in domestic violence shelters. People I trust have met and liked him. He says he was ousted because he wasn't afraid to rock the boat. I'm hoping so. He's principled and he listens to a range of views. The rest of them don't appear to have any passion for regenerating the North East.

Did your brother lose his combine harvester in the war against Elbonia?

Sadly the combine harvester is no more 😯

In updated news, my brother has started to 'feel like a woman' and is now my sister 😯 I respectfully request that you use the correct pronouns for him . Shit, I mean 'her' 😊

What a shedload of shit all this is 😬🤬

Novara media are backing Jamie as are Green New Deal Rising who have also been raising funds for him. Both are TWAW.

Well, further down the road, I'm holding my nose and voting for the LD. Wasted vote, but a vote it is.

I saw McGuinness make a speech and she was absolutely dreadful. Completely unable to speak without reading off cue cards in a stilted way. I couldn’t see her being able to do the job of mayor, I wouldn’t even have hired her to chair the local WI meeting.

Driscoll seems very popular and well thought of. Proper old Labour. Can't remember why Starmer expelled him , was it his support for Ken Loach. Baby with the bathwater.

If I remember correctly, he said at one of the hustings meetings I went to that it was because he associated with Ken Loach at an event!

Driscoll definitely got my vote. Sounds like he does joined up thinking, which is in very short supply in politics currently.

I don’t know his position on this issue, but I’ve met him after a speech he made. I liked the speech and thought he would be good. Then I chatted to him and discovered he was an arrogant, dismissive 🙄 Needless to say, I haven’t voted for him.

I spoke to him after the hustings I went to and didn't find him at all arrogant.

That’s good, but surely when a person is sometimes, it may be that is when their guard is down? I can only speak as I found. I met him a a South West Sunderland (Washington) Labour constituency meeting and he told me he was Mayor of North Tyneside and would soon “be my Mayor too”. That was about 18-months-ago. It was obvious in the discussion that he saw North and South of the Tyne to be his domain.

Ah, my chat with him was much more recent so maybe he's eaten a bit of humble reality pie since then. 🙂

I'm gutted he lost. Kim McGuiness? Ugh! What a wasted opportunity.

Unless she steals all of Driscoll's manifesto pledges. We can but hope.

I guess we need to give her a chance. Why do you dislike her so much?

I don't dislike her as a person. She just hasn't given me any reason to believe she will be an effective mayor for the region.

I hope she proves me wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.
