India Willoughby is voting for Jamie Driscoll as North East Mayor

I haven't seen anything about gender at all in the North East Mayoral election. If India Willoughby thinks Jamie Driscoll is a good candidate that presumably means he thinks trans women are women. Anyone know?

IW said on Twitter last night that they'd die at the scene of their illness or injury if they weren't permitted to use a female ward.
Sounds like reasonable, healthy adult behaviour. 😲😲

HoneyButterPopcorn · 02/05/2024 08:00

A few were saying that. Must responses were ‘no you wouldn’t soto being so melodramatic’

ValueAddedTaxonomy · 02/05/2024 08:02

Thank you @Caravaggiouch . I think I will take the plunge and vote for him, then. Silence on the subject is good enough when he has such constructive policies elsewhere. It is also an opportunity to cast a vote against Labour's high-handed centralism, which had him blocked as a Labouf candidate. And against Labour's failures across the board.

Transubstantifuckingation, mate.

😂

Trans women are women and trans men are men. Perhaps everyone should just live their own life.

But they're not. Biological facts are important no matter how much you say your mantra

I think I will vote for him too, based on what Caravaggiouch has said.

He seems to be quite pragmatic and not at all tribal which is what I was worried about since he came up initially as a Momentum member. He’s worked well with a Conservative Leader in Northumberland and a very non-Corbynite Mayor in North Tyneside and I think is reasonably well-respected by the business community.

Who told you that?

I'm a princess from Outer Rurartania. If you send me £1000, I can free up the millions trapped in my country. I'll share with you. Presumably you believe that shite too? 🤦

I like your terminology.

Perhaps it should be women, men and were-women and were-men. It would save all the them, they, zee, zen, panoramic sexually unexcited, and the rest of the alphabet soup, just 4 terms.

Woman - adult human female.

Trans woman - adult ✔️ human ✔️ all looking good so far......
Female ❌
Oh no they're fallen at the last fence.

So as they don't meet the traditional definition of women could you please supply us with a definition of 'woman' that means it includes some male people. Please note 'its very complicated' isn't a definition and any definition that contains the word it is defining isn't acceptable either so 'anyone who says they are a woman' won't cut the mustard.

As you know that TW are W you must be able to define W.

I have decided to live the life of Hugh Grosvenor, 7th Duke of Westminster. It's a better life than the one I got given at birth.

Sorry, that life has been taken - you’ll have to choose another one!

Did your brother lose his combine harvester in the war against Elbonia?

Gorgonemilezola · 02/05/2024 08:30

ValueAddedTaxonomy, me too, and am probably going to vote for Driscoll. AFAIK he's not said anything about the trans issue. Wise man.

It's a two horse race. Weird IW has as the other horse has 100% said twaw. Completely thrown women under the bus.

As she's Labour perhaps IW thinks Labour will end up not so twaw and so Kim will follow? 🤷

Jaime has listened to women and just sat on the fence a bit not wishing to nail his colours either way.

Thanks for that. So Kim M Guinness has definitely said twaw? I couldn't find anything on either of the main candidates positions on this.

I'm only able to see India's comments second hand. He blocked me on X despite never having had any interaction with him. Ditto H from Steps and Reece Dinsdale. There may be more!

Does anyone have any concrete info on Driscoll's stance on trans issues? I'm in the area for this mayoral election and he is the candidate I want to vote for; but I don't feel confident about voting for him without some assurance on this issue, so am considering just spoiling my ballot paper.
(We also have a police commissioner election and I emailed my prefered candidate but got no response to ask her view on collecting crime data by sex but got not response. Hate the thought of not being able to vote.

I'm in the same position. No response on exactly the same question to pcc candidate as well. I might vote for Driscoll and spoil my pcc ballot. I have no idea if my local police force record crime stats on sex or gender id. Feel like I haven't revised properly for an exam but it's not easy to find this stuff out.

H hasn't blocked me, I feel left out.

Driscoll seems very popular and well thought of. Proper old Labour. Can't remember why Starmer expelled him , was it his support for Ken Loach. Baby with the bathwater.

Lonely water 👍

I’m going to be using the very eloquent term ‘fuckwitted tauatology’ wherever I can shoehorn it into a conversation.
Thank you

I don’t know his position on this issue, but I’ve met him after a speech he made. I liked the speech and thought he would be good. Then I chatted to him and discovered he was an arrogant, dismissive 🙄 Needless to say, I haven’t voted for him.

He didn’t seek to expel him, just told him he wasn’t going to be Labour’s candidate for mayor and he spat his dummy out and resigned from the party!
