Furries in schools

I have name changed for this. Forgive me if this isn't the right board but I need to talk this through to get my head around this.

Another parent has just told me there is a furry community of young people at her dc secondary school which is in my city and an ordinary comprehensive.

The school is humouring the accessories and so on and they now have a designated room in the school to congregate. Apparently there was a request for a litter tray in the toilets though this was denied (google tells me this aspect might have been a hoax attempt).

The secondaries around here are super strict with uniforms. How is this allowed???

So I'm told some children will only respond in animal noises.

I knew what a furry was before. What adults do for fun is none of my business. But this in schools???? Or have I been under a rock?

Is it not just a silly tribe, a bit like being an Emo, or a hippy, I say that to someone who identified as a hippy in school. What I mean is kids have always grouped themselves and tribes, who cares.

Show me any evidence where pupils are actually being given litter trays.

Boombatty · 30/04/2024 13:28

Yes I don't understand why some people are so invested in denying this is happening.

Boombatty · 30/04/2024 13:29

I don't think they are being given litter trays but don't you think the fact that these kids want to wee and poo in a litter tray as school is more than a little worrying!?

Perfect28 · 30/04/2024 13:29

This is one of the oldest pieces of fake news there is going, spend 3 minutes on Google OP

But where is the actual evidence that is happening?

It's been debunked, so many times…

Perfect28 · 30/04/2024 13:32

@ManchesterBeatrice it's so frustrating how people just peddle bs without thinking about the consequences. I'm a teacher and my colleagues were telling me this exact same story 'from another school, a friend of a friend told me', they were actually quite aggressive about it. It's worrying, the lack of critical thinking.

ManchesterBeatrice · 30/04/2024 13:35

Who the hell is Dr JU.

Where is the credible evidence that this is happening in British schools? Not the 2 1/2 hour long video by some American psychologist.

Boombatty · 30/04/2024 13:35

My DD has seen it. My friend's daughter has seen it. My teacher friend has seen it. The parents on my local Facebook group have seen it. People on this thread are saying they have experienced it.

Maybe think about why you're so keen to deny people's experiences of this when you would accept them in other situations.

Our local school has of course denied it is happening - they would, wouldn't they? Its not as if authorities ever deny that uncomfortable things are happening within them is it?

LakeTiticaca · 30/04/2024 13:37

Please Sir, I now identify as a cat and from now on will enter school on all fours wearing a collar with a bell
Sir: no you won't. Get back to class
See, it's quite easy 😆

Seen what exactly though? You're not actually saying what they have seen.

Jux · 30/04/2024 13:38

Why on earth are schools allowing adult sex fantasies to pervade their classrooms? It's ridiculous.

I agree.
If schools and teachers are willing to lie to parents about their kids transitioning in schools, why wouldn't they lie about this?
Once you lie about one thing, I'm going to doubt everything else you say.

ManchesterBeatrice · 30/04/2024 13:39

Also, please don't compare asking for credible evidence, with denying that something exists.

It is completely reasonable for somebody to ask for credible evidence, it's extremely dangerous when people don't have credible evidence for their assertions.

See the recent 'Lexi' case.

Insomniahasclearlygotme · 30/04/2024 13:41

Yep, this is happening in DS secondary school too. The young girl in question identifies a cat/dragon hybrid and has so far been allowed to scratch my son on the arm for attention (he came home with literal claw marks on his arm and blazer), is allowed to sit on top of the desks during lessons and has a litter tray.

Absolute madness.

ItsFunToBeAVampire · 30/04/2024 13:44

Realistically, what evidence could there be?

It's not as if you can (or should) take photos of kids and plaster them online as proof, so of course it's going to be hearsay at this point.
At one time, it was denied that boys with a trans identity were getting changed with girls, and look where we are now.

I don’t know if this case is true but I do know it is happening. A close friend’s Dd is in Y7 at a highly selective girls school (I’m not going to give location) and there is a furry room. Her Dd thinks it’s all nonesense and wants nothing to do with it, so doesn’t know what goes on in there, but it is happening.

Edited

If there had been a secretive "furry room" at my school, I would have been devoting 110% of my energies to getting in there and finding out what was going on. These days I get to call it professional curiosity instead of terminal nosiness....but it all comes from the same place.

I am disappointed in your daughter. Ask her to at least have a peek in and report back 🤣🤣🤣

🤣

So you're telling me that a pupil in your child's school assaulted them in class.

They got away with it?

But instead of going to the school, and subsequently going to the press, if this was actually true, you are just posting about it on an online forum?

Also, they have a litter tray... Which presumably they use?

Where is it? Is it in the toilets? You would genuinely expect us to believe this.

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 30/04/2024 13:46

Furries in my dcs school as well

im not sure about litter trays though!

This has to be a load of bollocks surely 😅😅
If I was a parent I'd be having the national media round to do an interview

To be clear, it was dealt with by school after I did raise a complaint when he came home. He is not the only child this happened to, there is wider context not relevant to the OP, and I’m not particularly pleased with his reaction after DS told his science teacher to fuck off when she intervened in favour of the young girl because of her “mental health issues” (not making light that was the explanation I was given). No I did not go to the press as I do not believe that would help in the slightest. How I chose to deal with the situation is my business.

As far as I am aware the litter tray she requested was denied but she has been given a designated toilet. I’m simply saying that actually yes this is happening in schools.

Cailin66 · 30/04/2024 13:53

Yes this is happening. I know of two cases. My niece and nephew in an Irish secondary school where one girl identifies as a dog. My nephew and a gang of lads bark at the 'dog' to file her up as they think it's nonsense. Some of the other girls are non binary and pick which bathroom to use.

In another Irish school one toilet has been designated for trans, my youngest is in this school. The school principal told me she avoids pronouns by using the children first name

And I know of a case in South Africa where one child identifies as a wolf. I have not heard of litter trays though.
