I contacted various london candidates on twitter asking their views.

Radio silence.

Still not voted as I'm now unsure what to do (postal vote).

Ohyoudodoyou · 29/04/2024 19:24

"Don't use that penis tone with me, madam."
Seriously though, her response is vintage pre-enlightenment, circa 2020 I'd say? It's almost as though it's a cut and paste response from the 'no debate' era, how out of touch is she? So many others have started to back track now, she will when she starts seeing all the legal fall out from the Cass report and everyone starts coming forward with their stories of being rushed through treatment.

You DS needs to grow a backbone.

I know other LDs like this.

The Cass Review says that this is a child safeguarding issue. Any one within the LDs who won't stand up at this point is a) enabling this b) doesn't think child safeguarding is a good enough hill to die on.

What else will they fail to find a backbone on if this is their standard?

My DS is 18 so give him time

GeorgeOrwellsTurningGrave · 29/04/2024 20:23

How incredibly unprofessional, incompetent and rude. I look forward to the penny dropping for utter tools like this. I have no pity for her she is obviously unfit for office.

EdithStourton · 29/04/2024 20:24

Aaaand this is why I left the LDs and refuse to have a poster up for them.

BonnyBo · 29/04/2024 20:53

I hear it as “penis-t one” so more like penis-ed one

Nominative determinism strikes again.

Fuck me I know this woman! I had no idea she'd gone into politics - she used to sell shit soap in one of those MLM pyramid schemes! Always very into being 'different' so this doesn't surprise me. Not someone an intelligent person would vote for.

munchbunch12 · 29/04/2024 21:59

If anyone is in the West Midlands and thinking about who to vote for in the Police and Crime Commissioner election on Thursday, a few weeks ago I was visited by Simon Foster who is the current Labour PCC. I asked him about single sex spaces such as prisons and DV refuges. He said he has 3 daughters and is very much in favour of keeping these. We also spoke about advocates for victims of stalking (it had been on the BBC breakfast news) and he said he'd been responsible for appointing some (I forget the number) in the WM. It was pre Cass report so I didn't ask about that. As a caveat, I haven't spoken to any other candidates so don't know their views.

borntobequiet · 29/04/2024 22:34

Yes, similar sort of response guaranteed from my local LDs. And to think I supported them -was even a member - for decades. Totally captured.

Trained as a physio, I believe, but clearly didn't grasp the importance of evidence-based medicine. Odd, isn't it. Why didn't her patients just identify as fit and healthy and young and save all that tiresome business of physical therapy, exercises, massage and so on to try to fix or ameliorate their underlying issues?

Justme56 · 30/04/2024 09:05

She sounds like a liability if she were to become mayor. It’s a very public facing role and I’d be wary of her inability to discuss anything without coming across as rude and dismissive.

She'll be a great mayor. Signing off things which aren't compatible with the Equality Act and then having a meltdown over questions being raised about them. Think of the legal liabilities she would incur.

I can only presume she's been put up to stand without much chance of winning. LDs do that a lot and have form for some unsavoury candidates. Their new social media contract was supposed to stop that, but quite honestly I think they don't care.

It's bloody appalling though.

It's weird cos I never knew that about her. I always assume people desperately trying to sell things to their friends don't have an actual career. You make a very good point about evidence-based medicine! I'm fortunately not in the area anymore but if I was I'd vote for literally anyone else.

HK came fourth in the election for Mayor/PCC, with 11.4%.

And I bet she just thinks all those "transphobes" who have no idea what's best for them didnt vote appropriately.

Absolutely no reflection on what she says v votes received.

PuttingDownRoots · 04/05/2024 17:13

Honestly I don't think her views will have affected the overall result. Maybe pushed her below the Green party candidate. Labour got 51%

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 04/05/2024 19:22

This is how you know it's a cult. Almost no one genuinely believes in all the tenets of the faith, so there is the constant cognitive dissonance of claiming to believe that TWAW etc, while knowing it isn't true. They cannot risk making that cognitive dissonance worse, because the whole belief system will then unravel. That is why they can't debate or make any concessions at all.

Compare this with political beliefs. The Brexit debate was the most divisive in living memory but, even at its most heated phase, most Remain supporters would concede that the EU had some faults and most Leave supporters would admit that it had done some things that are OK. When your belief is at least partly grounded in facts, you can debate those facts without feeling threatened.

No debate is a symptom of weakness, as well as a strategy that is rapidly running out of road.

mrshoho · 04/05/2024 19:31

Yes cultist through and through. She 'unequivocally supports trans rights' so no matter how much evidence of the harm to children and women is put under her nose, she will not bend. Dangerous ideology.

Yes, exactly. I feel like there shoudl be some pithy saw about how people attack most viciously when they feel they are unable to defend rationally.

100%. And it's why they get so angry about those of us who disbelieve, they're scared of slipping up in their devotion, either in their own eyes or especially those of their zealous peer group.

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 04/05/2024 21:43

On the plus side, at least she responded.
Last time, I emailed a short set of questions to the lib dem candidate in my ward.

She didn't bother to reply at all.

I had been looking forward to some doorstep canvassing this time - but they didn't bother with that either
