I like to believe her surname is pronounced like the sound an old fashioned till makes.

On thread, what a disgraceful response. Disagreement is fine, rudeness is typical of tras not acceptable in an elected representative.

If she's standing for public office she should be able to cope with questions from constituents. She really shouldn't be insulting the public.

Well, just entirely, she shouldn't be so nasty and dismissive towards a constituent. She doesn't seem to be a member of the Reality Based Community, does she? I wonder if any complaint can be made about her and her sneering reply?

If nothing else, I wonder if HelloWorld68 should forward the exchange to the Daily Mail? This sort of thing is catnip to them.

It's not my exchange to forward but I suspect that the Daily Mail frequently stalk the FWR board!!

Wouldn't be surprised to see this online by tomorrow! It's a humdinger exchange of correspondence!!

She's a ward councillor for Penistone in Barnsley.

seriously? penistone - you're having a laugh right?

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 29/04/2024 17:41

On the plus side, when the most ardent proponents of this silly fad are middle aged Lib Dem councillors, you know it's nearly over.

BigBarm · 29/04/2024 17:43

I am not in Hannah’s constituency, but I had a look at her Twitter account and discovered that one of her supporters is a Lib Dem candidate on my ballot paper. And their Twitter indicates that they are another idiot not worth voting for.

Twitter is very useful at election time - much more info than you ever would get from a leaflet or a doorstep chat with the candidates. It’s astonishing that they don’t seem to realise this.

I see what you did there.

catscatscurrantscurrants · 29/04/2024 17:46

That's my mayoral election next week! Well, she's fucked it for my vote.

Thecatisboss · 29/04/2024 17:46

Unfortunately a Councillor local to me. She'd always appeared very up on local affairs too! She's lost my vote now and thinkshe's standing for South Yorkshire Mayor as well.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/04/2024 17:47

The Vonny in the email is the real name of Jean Hatchet, well known GC activist in the South Yorkshire area (it's her own screenshot, so I'm not giving anything away). If anyone isn't blocked by Hannah, perhaps they could ask her about the enormous donation (£1.5m?) made to the LibDems by Ferring Pharmaceuticals, who manufacture puberty blockers.

yetanotherusernameAgain · 29/04/2024 17:47

She posted this on Twitter back in October 2021. She seems to think (or thought) that only 'cis men' are "the real perpetrators of violence against women".

Is it the school of thought that if 'real' transwomen aren't a threat to women, then any transwoman who is found guilty of a violent crime against a woman isn't a 'real' transwoman? Is that how Humza Yousaf could tell that Isla Bryson wasn't genuinely a transwoman?

Is it just sexual crimes that have the magical power of distinguishing between real transwomen and men who are 'at it'? It can't be all violent crimes because some natal women commit violent acts too.

And if the guilty person is therefore not a genuine transwoman, what are the implications for the courts/media using their preferred pronouns and any GRA certificate that they hold or apply for? Perhaps we need a third outcome in criminal trials: Not Guilty; Guilty; Guilty and therefore a Cis Man.

Fenlandia · 29/04/2024 17:52

Embarrassed for her - surely any aspiring politician has to be able to state their position clearly and deal with awkward questions?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 29/04/2024 17:58

Isn't it odd how adhering to this ideology outs so many people as emotionally incontinent? Given running for public office requires some level of people skills, a grasp of complex issues along with the ability to listen and respond to the electorate, asking these questions is brilliant for exposing intolerant & inadequate candidates.

menopausalmare · 29/04/2024 18:02

Was she on the gin at the time of writing?

Desecratedcoconut · 29/04/2024 18:03

I haven't even got a response out of either of our PCC candidates for Thurs. Which is rude. How many emails do you think they get, given most people can't even be bothered to vote for them at all and those that do typically just vote for their usual party? Fuck all, I bet.

Edit: Sorry, off topic ranting.

theDudesmummy · 29/04/2024 18:49

That is absolutely disgusting. Parroting unthinking cant in such an unintelligent manner and then being completely undemocratic. What an idiot. And post-Cass too. She is going to look like a right tosser (if anyone actually still cares about her bleatings) when someone posts her deleted tweets in a couple of years. Why could not engage with the (completely reasonable) enquiry from someone she actually purports to represent? So completely unacceptable.

PuttingDownRoots · 29/04/2024 18:55

She was actually my preferred candidate for the Mayoral elections this week. Back to drawing board...

ArabellaScott · 29/04/2024 19:00

ScarletPimpernel · 29/04/2024 16:44

Crikey!

Exactly my reaction.

Absolutely. It's a great litmus test.

LakeTiticaca · 29/04/2024 19:02

Wowser what a vote winner 😁😆

DrSoupDragonsFriend · 29/04/2024 19:03

Regardless of her politics, I would not want to give someone that rude my vote. Has anyone circulated this on the local social media yet?

mauvish · 29/04/2024 19:04

Hannah Kitching is also standing for Mayor for South Yorkshire in the elections this week.

(added - I think it's a shot in the dark as te current Lab mayor seems popular and seems to be doing a good job, as far as one can tell).

DS1 is a lib dem member and is active in the party (although he is GC). He agrees with most of their policies (mores than he agrees with the conservative or labour position) but not their stance on gender ideology. He says its incredibly difficult since if someone asked him the question his understanding is that he has to repeat the party's position. It is very much not his personal position. I told him he should probably say "the party's position is x. My personal view is y" but he thinks he would be asked to leave the party if he did this. I suspect he's not the only person who feels like this.

This woman is doubling down though and has clearly abandoned critical thought..

You DS needs to grow a backbone.

I know other LDs like this.

The Cass Review says that this is a child safeguarding issue. Any one within the LDs who won't stand up at this point is a) enabling this b) doesn't think child safeguarding is a good enough hill to die on.

What else will they fail to find a backbone on if this is their standard?

ArabellaScott · 29/04/2024 19:20

Code of conduct for councillors is interesting.
