What is their purpose?

It's always earnest bloody women throwing other women under the buses wheels, isn't it?

Where has their self respect gone?

Melroses · 20/04/2024 13:01

If defining what a woman is so patriarchal that they won't do it, who are Elect Her trying to get elected?

Same goes for Fawcett. All that money bequested to them.

What are they being paid to do? 🤷‍♀️

WTAF? Idiotic. Betrayers of women and girls.

combattywombatty · 20/04/2024 13:18

Just cancelled my donation.
WTF!!

MrsOvertonsWindow · 20/04/2024 13:27

I knew this would be about the grim Fawcett lot. Terminally disappointing.

Datun · 20/04/2024 13:46

"We're not interested in defining what a woman is, patriarchy's been doing that long enough".

If you can't fucking define who a woman is, how do you know who they're doing it to!

And who runs 'the patriarchy'? Hamsters?

WTF!!

Fawcett, WEP, Women's Budget Group et al. lost my money years ago.

It's been redirected to crowdfunders, Sex Matters etc. And the way this is going, this dinosaur will have to work way past retirement to keep it up, but that's OK.

Women's rights matter.

popebishop · 20/04/2024 14:39

So the message is "Elect anyone regardless of sex"?
Why do we need that, again?

There are so many layers to this.

Who do they think they are trying to get elected? Why are they any different to the one who have already been elected?

So dim and embarrassing.

Possibly.

They are a disgrace to women and to feminism.
I hope one day they understand what they've been caught up in.

ArabellaScott · 20/04/2024 16:17

Pathetic. And smug with it.

Sorry but men even dominate Hamster Wheels. Us old women get to bake bread instead. Sciencifically googling without context 'researching the internet' tells me this:

Love love peace peace
Old women baking bread
Peace peace love love
And a man in a hamster wheel
Love peace peace love
Make it unforgettable
You will be the best

They are willing to using money donated for women’s causes, to help men take women’s places. The Fawcett Society should be disbanded.

WickedSerious · 20/04/2024 20:02

They can stick it up their shit chutes.

Snowypeaks · 20/04/2024 20:53

At least some of the money donated or bequeathed to the Fawcett Society will have had conditions attached that it was to be used for the benefit of women/girls in some way, or the money will have been given on the understanding that the Fawcett worked for the advancement of women. I'm sure a legal challenge is possible, at least in theory. Even if the trustees have discretion to interpret their charitable objectives, or how to disburse grants etc, the trustees can't justify the Fawcett helping men instead of women, or even reclassifying men as women. It's directly contrary to its purpose.

Exactly.

It's so stupid, I don't know where to start.

(IMO) I think when something like this comes up it would be good to include the names of the organisations concerned!!

FWR thread titles get quickly promoted and I think we should use the power of search engines to make sure that groups who say they are women's groups but in fact do not support the fact that women are biological females should be made public.

Additionally I dont think Fawcett has had anything to do with what the original organisation was. It transformed itself into an "equality" group way back as an more acceptable alternative to Women's Liberation for the Labour party etc.. As evidenced by who their new Chair is.

the actual campaign group elect her is just one of those money spinners for a certain class of women who know how to put in grant applications, and have the right "look" for public events.

But if anyone is interested they are running a session tomorrow. I am sure anyone signing up will learn a lot!

I think it's interesting that recently many people and organisations have seen which way the wind's blowing and changed tac. HIGNFY and Ruth Hunt for example (Wes Streeting was an early adopter) so that in the future they can make out that they never kept quiet or were ever cheerleading the butchering of kids. And yet it seems to have completely bypassed certain other sectors.
It'll being interesting to see how the next couple of years plays out. I suspect the only people still buying into this shit will be the likes of Fawcett and Elect Her. You know, the type of organisation that was set up to specifically fight for the rights of women and girls.
