What's the voting requirement to elect a new FM?
Could Labour nominate their own candidate and that candidate then faces off the SNP candidate in a vote?
Is it simple majority? Anyone who wins a majority vote is the new FM?

it seems that is what they do - last time each party (except Greens) simply nominated their own leader and voted for them. In theory all the other parties could have joined together to present a single candidate who would be an actual challenge but in reality that wouldn’t happen.

INeedAPensieve · 29/04/2024 10:19

It would be nice to get a Scottish politician in power who doesn't try to deny scientific fact anymore.

Stop lying to our children. Stop stripping women's hard won rights away. Just stop. Please.

SaffronSpice · 29/04/2024 10:21

INeedAPensieve sadly we are stuck with an SNP FM unless there is an election.

IcakethereforeIam · 29/04/2024 10:25

Gender ideology is political poison. The last thing they need is another sacrificial gender lemming.

INeedAPensieve · 29/04/2024 10:26

@SaffronSpice yeah I know. To quote Gandalf, it's a fools hope.

I'm beyond tired of it all now. I was so angry last year but as it's got worse and worse and my work (public sector) has officially become more insane I've just become really down about it. All the fight has gone out of me. I'm scared for my children. One is v vulnerable with additional needs and starting school soon. I don't know how to protect him if I can't even speak out without being afraid of being anonymously reported.

I don't know. If enough of the party are gender ideologues they could quite easily keep trying until the public "catches up with them".

As they are convinced the public will.

I wish this would hurry up and resolve; I got shit to do and it's TOO POPCORN

Only if they get the votes. Personaly I'm hoping it goes to a Scottish general election.
My gut feeling is that SNP will be looking for green support. Greens will play hardball at first but the closer that 28 day limit approaches the more both the SNP and greens will be prepared to compromise.
If they hop back into bed, they get to be in power again, the greens have had a taste of power, and they want more. Personal needs are going to come first. If they do get back together, it's going to be an uneasy alliance with each side keeping one eye open on the other at all times.
I think if they get this arrangement going it will enable both the SNP and greens to shrug off the recent trouble as Humza problems and not address the underlying issues. The SNP and greens will be all bright fresh starty, and the voters will have a very different view of the omnishambles. Come the UK general election this could be worse for both the SNP and greens than a Scottish election now to clear the air.

motheronthedancefloor · 29/04/2024 10:43

Sounds like Harvie and the greens will vote against the Labour partys NC vote as long as Humza goes.

Not surprising - they wont want an election because they'll lose seats.

Sadly, you are going to have to find energy for a fight if you have a child with ASN. Not just regarding gender ideology. ASN and education is another area of failure.

I can't quite believe this and my short term memory is a bit shit at the moment so I am just checking; has all this happened thanks to the reaction to the Cass review??

Yes, but they are pretending it was the climate targets.

Yes. The Greens had a massive tantrum about Cass, puberty blockers, and 'gender' issues.

They threatened to leave the BHA over it.

Then Humza chucked them. There were some half hearted pretend efforts to say that it was the climate agreements but it's pretty clear that the issue was 'gender'.
