I expect the Eunuch update to WPATH 8 made this surgery possible/billable on US insurance?
This daft, fetish driven man is going to have such a rude awakening - I follow the stories of a number of detrans gay men who are very open about their ongoing issues and struggling to find appropriate help to live healthy lives post-castration.
A few quick examples, Alexander from Norway says he still has bleeding ten years post surgery.
Ritchie has needed revisions to his urethra to be able to pee adequately.
Both Shapeshifter and Ritchie have discussed how taking exogenous testosterone with a neovagina has been difficult- their libidos woke back up but they have no way of achieving any fulfilment from that as they have no functional genitals. It just gives them a tortuous version of something akin to phantom limb.
Shape has talked about how testosterone has ‘woken up’ what is left of the penile tissue, causing uncomfortable swelling of the surgical site.
Not being able to achieve sexual fulfilment has made it more difficult to bond with romantic partners.
Ritchie has stopped taking exogenous testosterone because of the above, he has come to realise a low dose of estrogen (for bone health) is preferable to him than having a testosterone driven libido and no genitals to make use of it. Ritchie has started to call himself a ‘desistor’ instead of a ‘detransitioner’ because while he no longer believes he has a female gender identity, he is trapped in gender medicine and cannot go backwards or undo anything already done (he currently wears a binder because he cannot contemplate trusting another surgeon/risking further complications).
I very much hope that the Cass Review results in some sort of NHS service for detrans people. If it really is only 1% (hahaha!) they can just have a small clinic funded by NHS England based in London or MCR and then send a clinician off to do a 3 monthly clinic at the opposite end of the country (the way GIDS used to send staff to NI and Cardiff). The other nations can then commission the NHSE detrans service the way they currently do with trans genital surgeries. No excuses.
Despite all their ongoing physical troubles, Shape, Alexander and Ritchie all seem to be in a much improved place psychologically now that they have stopped pretending to be the opposite sex. I admire them all for speaking up and wish them all well for the future - they are exactly the sort of vulnerable gay men/former GNC little boys with internalised homophobia whose contemporary equivalents are being taught self hatred in our schools and online, just as our young lesbians and neurodivergent girls are.
