My platonic crush on Kathleen Stock just got bigger. What a way with words, "...it is clear from Cass’s overtly respectful tone and at times still-euphemistic language that her aim is not just to inform these readers but also to deprogram them."

How a cult captured the NHS

it is not hard to conclude that, for many in the medical profession, transactivism is based on faith not reason. Consider, for instance, the astonishing levels of religiosity in this 2023 publication from the NHS Confederation, at one point encouraging “allies” to “recognise the privilege afforded to them as a cisgender person and uses this to uplift the voices of trans and non-binary colleagues”.

“Cults are not unusual, as human phenomena go; the unusual point is that one came to control parts of the NHS.

“But one instructive thing we can learn from the wreckage of gender medicine is that, with the right kind of institutional and rhetorical scaffolding, doctors can become unsure about what their goals are supposed to be. It’s no good telling them to first do no harm, when they can’t work out how to reliably detect it.

Worth reading.

What a powerful article. I'm glad she addressed the tone and "pandering " to transactivists that ran through Cass with "both sides" questioning it. Transactivists allow no critical thinking or questioning while everyone else a bit perplexed that the conclusions demonstrating the unethical medical experimentation on children by the NHS were described so seemingly "respectfully".
"Generally, there is a sense of gingerly addressing a group of emotionally labile people who are not quite ready to face the whole truth".

Seeing these people as akin to being in a cult explains why Cass adopted the pacifying tone that she did. It's now up to the rest of society to remove them from their toxic influence on children.

Beautifully clear, incisive writing from Doc Stock. Not a single word wasted.

Bumping this as the article is so well written and explained.

Treating children like adults and adults like children seems to be a theme of trans activism.

Another gem from Stock's article:

'Instead, time and again in Cass’s report she is forced back into the conceit that the most pressing problem for contemporary gender medicine is the lack of good evidence for such interventions either way. It is as if a modern-day medic had been tasked with reviewing the efficacy of trepanning, and then ordered to defend her findings in front of fanatical fifth-century devotees. “It’s not that drilling a hole in a child’s skull to release demons is necessarily harmful, you understand — indeed, it may be the best outcome in some cases. The main issue is the lack of long-term follow up.”'

I am too and Dr. Stockton did it with a deep understanding of what Dr. Cass's primary goal was - to give an unbiased medical review and have it be taken seriously. I find no fault with Dr. Cass's method in the context of this report. When dealing with the mentally unstable, meeting them at a point where they might actually trust you enough to look at the facts is more likely to persuade the entrenched than a simple, "are you daft? Who could have ever thought this was a good idea."

Thank the goddess for all sorts of methods to stop this madness.

THIS!!

Just yesterday I talked to a #bekind friend who believes in true trans as a rare thing. She also happens to be wise and fierce mother of a now adult DD (no trans identity tg) and listened to me explain the Cass report. We are in the states so only coverage has been NYTimes. She pondered it a lot and finally came to the mindset that we need to tell these kids no for now. Wait until you're 25 and if you're still trans then you can get the hormones. Be kind to your body.

She's right. #bekind should have been applied to the bodies of trans-identifying children. She said we need to tell other parents they can say no.

Changes are coming!!!
