Interesting article from the 11th April. If this is brought forward it will test the credibility of Labour's stance. Personally I think trans should just be left out.

Rishi Sunak is reportedly pushing ahead with a ban on conversion therapy, commonly understood as the pseudo-scientific practice of attempting to change an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity. This usually means trying to prevent or suppress someone from being gay or transgender.

Sunak had been considering dropping the bill amid the claims of “unintended consequences” for teachers, parents and therapists helping children who are struggling with their gender identity. However, Simon Hart, the chief whip, warned last year that the government could face a revolt from Tory MPs if it failed to go ahead with the ban.

The recommendations within Cass mean that therapy and non-medicalisation cannot be considered as conversion therapy

Article in the Guardian. Bit of a change of tone. Again I'll be interested in seeing what Labour MPs say after their previous inputs to debate.

Hilary Cass warns Kemi Badenoch over risks of conversion practices ban https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/11/hilary-cass-warns-kemi-badenoch-over-risks-of-conversion-practices-ban?CMP=share_btn_urlShe (Cass) added that framing the legislation was crucial when it came to ascribing intent. “If you have no intent to make somebody change their gender, and as a result of your therapy, or your interaction with them, they do happen to change their gender – and then they say that you were doing that deliberately.“That’s what people are afraid of. How you legislate that I have absolutely no idea but all I can say is you absolutely have to avoid anything that’s going to frighten people more.
