The 1974 drama series about the Suffragettes is being repeated from 10pm BBC4 next Wed, 17th April. Although I was only 3 in 1974, my Mum kept an accompanying booklet from the programme, from which I first learnt about the Suffragettes some years later. Really looking forward to actually seeing the series!

Oh, I've never heard of this but it sounds good. Thanks

It was a marvellous series. I think Sian Phillips was in it and other British stalwarts. Ii remember it had a really stirring theme tune.

That's brilliant. Thanks for the information.

Brilliant! I have been looking for this for years, I was at school when it was on and loved it. The theme tune was the Suffragette anthem - March of the Women by Ethel Smythe.

Fantastic, thank you!

Marvellous!

How interesting that the 50th anniversary of the original airing is coinciding with a renewed interest in women’s rights/contemporary terfism?

Hope the TikTok terves get to see it!

The entire series has been made available on iPlayer for one year.

Saw it in the 70s. Is it on iPlayer?

I watched the whole series earlier this week. I don't remember seeing it in 1973 - I don't think we had a TV!
It was inspiring and very well done. The forcefeeding parts were quite graphically done and harrowingly realistic. Have been singing "March of the Women" in my head ever since.
It made me even more determined (as I have always been) to use my vote!

Ethel Smyth wrote the music but Cicely Hamilton wrote the words.
