As if the Hate Crime law and the ban on conversion therapy weren't enough.

Previously to fall foul of a hate crime under any sort of conversion activity there had to be malice or ill will based on the person's objection to gender transition. Now if it goes through you can fall foul even if you believe you are acting in the chiild's best interests. It says it will be an aggressive factor in future sentencing for any further offence. This article doesn't make it clear whether that's another action related to trans/hate, or any offence regardless of what it is.

SNP could extend hate crime laws to offer trans people more protection (msn.com)

There must be a shortage of Kool Aid in Scotland, the SNP have drunk it all.

Absolutely frightening!

What on earth is up with the Scottish government?

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 09/04/2024 22:57

This is why some of us feel forced to vote Tory! Bloody frightening.

Linearforeignbody · 09/04/2024 23:02

The only party who voted against the bill was the Conservatives.

I think this is going to finish the SNP now.

littlbrowndog · 09/04/2024 23:05

Yep you can get 7 years in jail for refusing to let your teen girl wear a binder. Because you are committing conversion therapy on your daughter

RedToothBrush · 09/04/2024 23:07

You want to bet that the first contact with a challenge this law gets found to be contrary to other laws and gets binned due to being unlawful?

Myalternate · 09/04/2024 23:27

Utter, utter madness.

The conversion therapy plans have been highly controversial because parents could potentially be prosecuted and face up to seven years in jail if they refused to let their child “socially transition” to live as a member of the opposite sex. The law would apply even if a parent believed they were helping their child.

Didn't realise SNP was so desperate to lose their hold on Scotland- but clearly they are. This will be the end of them and it's about bloody time.

RainWithSunnySpells · 09/04/2024 23:32

So the SNP are planning to ignore the Cass report?

They are ignoring, their own (ex)members, the voters, women, lawyers, auditors, pretty much everyone. Why should Dr Hilary Cass be any different?
At this point I don't think the SNP gives a fuck, they know they are going to get brutally kicked to the kerb the first chance the voters get. They are just making sure everyone else comes down in flames with them. I bet you there are SNP MSPs who don't know who Cass is or why everyone is talking about Cass.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 10/04/2024 08:20

You would think this would end the SNP but quite honestly I don’t think it will. I live in a small village and the majority still go about shouting about oil and Indy.

The Scots loathe the whole trans thing and that Hate Crime Law. Nicola Sturgeon was finally finished off by the Bryant debacle and Humza started slithering down the greasy pole over the same issue. The SNP never learn. They can change their leader but if they don't change their policies they are dead in the water. I'll never understand where their allegiance to gender ideology comes from but they all seem willing to sacrifice themselves for it.

Aberdeen. I vote Tory for this reason, and because of the field I work in.

I hate the SNP.

UpThePankhurst · 13/07/2024 18:29

Religious nuttery. It's getting very stark now.

BlackForestCake · 13/07/2024 19:25

I can only hypothesise that the SNP is infiltrated by the UK security services so much that everything it does is designed to kill the desire for Scottish independence stone dead.

if you read the BTL comments on the wings over Scotland website, a large number of posters are convinced Sturgeon was/is an MI5 plant to maintain the union. Given what a fucking mess she made of the cards she was dealt it does not seem that bonkers a notion.

They got caned in the General Election and have learned nothing. One of them was on TV the day after, basically blaming the electorate for getting it wrong. Sturgeon's arrogance was boundless. Looks like she infected the whole party.

SNP members just can’t accept she’s an egomaniac - the default is to blame Westminster/the English etc etc. Anyone apart from themselves.
The conspiracy theories are ridiculous. If you believe that, then do explain when she was “turned”.

sturgeon was/is a typical mediocre bully. Instead of bringing on and encouraging talent, anyone who looked remotely like a threat to her power was binned (see Joanne Cheery for one) so the SNP is now just a rest home and gravy train for nutters.

I dont actually believe that, but a lot of Scots nats do. When they got 56 out of 59 map's in 2015 they could, credibly, have declared UDI.

They have forgotton that they work for the electorate.

Do you think that there will be a 'diss track' soon?*

  • Referencing the furore around 'the Acolyte'. Apparently, if you don't enjoy a badly written TV programme, it had to be because you are racist and it was definitely not because the programme had any issues with the plot, dialogue, character development, basic physics and so on. /End tangent.

They got this from the plot of the six four tv series. Who are more nuts the conspiracy theorists or the SNP
SNP started believing they were untouchable. Well they paid the price for that last week.
they choose the wrong hill to die on.

Hoardasurass · 14/07/2024 23:13

I'm not worried about this as it will fail to pass a judicial review for exactly the same reason as the named person bill, it is state interference with parental rights and basically overreach on a massive scale. I know that a couple of groups are ready and waiting to take this 1 to crt
