Any other podcast listeners out there?

Wondered if we could share the Good, Bad and Ugly covering of the news as it’s gone into podcasts? I love listening to them as I potter round the house

God bless JK getting this out into mainstream again, being discussed in places that enjoy avoiding discussions on women’s rights

Newscast did ok, their female guest Susan Smith did an amazing job

News Agents - two men wanging on about it and not really getting it

Ha! I agree with your summary of both of those! I think Newsagents suffered from not having Maitlis there.

MotherEarthisaTerf · 04/04/2024 10:46

Not sure she’s much benefit on the topic (and I think she intentionally avoids it!) but just having a female voice in the mix would help. They did really miss having a guest on I think.

have you heard any more?

I thought the News Agents was ok, perhaps apart from repeatedly characterising the GC positions as absurd (but not hateful)(I think that was the word), which felt like paying penance for mentioning it, and I quite like the way they sometimes have one, two or three of them around.

Not a podcast, but James Mitchison of the Yorkshire Post has put up a tweet in support of JKR and women and although he is getting a lot of blocks and negative comments, he has 2.5k likes on it. https://x.com/JayMitchinson/status/1775620182041350487?s=20

'We have regressed too far when women who agree with
@jk_rowling
, women who share her views about womanhood and what it means to be a girl, female, woman are too scared to say so. Do women’s rights matter anymore? Why do women feel bullied out of the debate about womanhood?'

I agree I think she avoids it but I don't think they would have gone for the 'it's a mad opinion but you should be able to say it' shtick if she was there. She might not say much on it but I think they know her feelings and adjust their pronouncements as a result.
No haven't heard any others yet.

Private Eye podcast just released -

Lots of agreement that it was a badly released bill, asking why we should trust the police to judge anything.

on gender critical issues and JK -
Adam Hunter Murray wonders why JK would misgender poor Bergforf . Ian Hislop thinks that JK bungled her tweets on the topic to blur offenders vs activists, and Helen Lewis comes out as GC and says that Rowling has rolled her fists up and come out fighting.

Hislop can be incredibly blinkered sometimes, seemingly related to arrogance. The point, when pushing the law, was to blur offenders and activists because we're stuck in this gaslighting situation where TWAW, except when they're not and for those situations we're told there's the women transwomen people and the rapist gender non-women transwomen people.

MeMyselfAndMyEye · 04/04/2024 14:43

I thought BBC's newscast was the worst. It was essentially two blokes discussing a women's issue and giving their version of "calm down dear".

At least News Agents had a good guest, and they gave her time to talk.

Wrong way round? Or did I link them wrong, sorry.

Completely. It’s a crime to misgender anybody - unless you believe they’re the wrong kind of trans. Only nice people have gender dysphoria and only allies can decide who’s who.

This is one of my regular podcasts- thanks for summarising it, I was wondering how they’d deal with it.

I've mentioned it previously but the last one touched on puberty blockers and was pretty interesting. Dr Phil Hammond was good (as ever).

ITV News podcast seems to bravely close eyes to the issue

In fairness I haven’t listened to the ITV podcast

The Guardian has done a fairly detailed, but biased, look into the legislation

https://www.theguardian.com/news/audio/2024/apr/04/scotland-new-hate-law-podcast

The correspondant, Libby Brooks tells Hannah Moore:

"On that day she [Rowling] posted a very lengthy thread on X, saying that the legislation was wide open to abuse and she listed sex offenders who describe themselves as transgender, alongside well known trans women activists and described them as 'Men, every last one of them.' "

So the sex offenders describe themselves as transgender, but the trans women are just trans women?

Scotland’s new hate crime law - podcast

The Scottish government has introduced a hate crime law that broadens protections for marginalised groups but critics say it limits freedom of speech. Libby Brooks reports

Apparent continued absence from these two formidable wangs?

Haven't heard their podcasts recently - but they've released two after 1st April and neither mention the Scottish issue in the episode descriptions.
