Meeting Ed Davey - what to ask?

SueBridehead444 · 02/04/2024 07:01

I have an opportunity to meet Ed Davey, leader of the Lib Dems and believer of genderism, today.

What do I ask him to put him on the spot, that will be polite but to the point?

I'm worried that I will just waffle and not make my point clearly if I don't plan it in advance, so any help would be much appreciated!
TIA

How about, if a female friend or family member required intimate personal care due to illness, would you be happy for that to be provided by someone who was born a male, regardless of how that person identified?

highame · 02/04/2024 09:41

what about 'Hi Ed, did you like the colour of Isla Bryson's lipstick?'

Gagagardener · 02/04/2024 09:54

Please report back. Good luck!

Rightsraptor · 02/04/2024 09:56

'What percentage of women have a penis would you say, Sir Ed?'

That way he has a free choice of numbers from 0 to 100, up to him. Are you permitted a follow-up question, OP?

It may not seem respectful (arent we all sick of male members?), but he's been there before and the man is a politician, so he shouldn't be handled with kid gloves.

Hoppinggreen · 02/04/2024 09:57

When we met him DS (around 9 at the time) told him he looked like Donald Trump, he took it quite well I thought.
I asked DS why he said it as he actually doesnt look like Donald Trump - its his hair apparently

IcakethereforeIam · 02/04/2024 10:03

I think, if I had the opportunity re women/penis, I'd word it, 'a woman, obviously, cannot have a penis, why do people keep insisting that they can?'.

Possibly follow up, 'if a man has lost his penis through disease or accident, is he then a woman?' Or perhaps lead with that.

teawamutu · 02/04/2024 10:12

I'd go with the Staniland Question or the one about his words regarding spaces where a biological male can't go.

As follow up: how many women or children harmed would be unacceptable collateral damage and make you rethink your stance? Give me a ballpark number.

And 'given all the above, as a woman who knows the need for single sex spaces - why the fuck would I vote for you?'

popebishop · 02/04/2024 10:15

What is one difference between a man and a woman? (As a class of people, not any individuals within those classes).
Or do you consider the distinction to be meaningless?

TiberiusFlam · 02/04/2024 10:16

I emailed him recently about the issue.

Thank you for your email.

I appreciate this is an emotive and sensitive issue which is important to address in a reasonable and respectful manner. Not least because it affects some of the most vulnerable people in our society. I must say that I believe that we should be doing everything we can to protect the rights of everyone in society and treat all transgender people with the respect that they deserve,

Although we might disagree on this matter I hope there are others on which we agree.

I have asked my team to remove your details from our mailing lists. We can ensure no mail addressed to you is received from us, and we will ask our volunteers not to deliver leaflets to your address - although unaddressed mail might sometimes still come, for instance when we are using Royal Mail or a private company to deliver.

Thank you, again, for contacting me. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
With best wishes,

Ed Davey

That is appalling Tiberius. Maybe OP could ask Davey if blanking people is his preferred method of debate / persuasion and ask if it goes down well on the doorstep.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 02/04/2024 10:29

Do the Liberal Democrats intend to clarify the Equality Act so as to protect women from the intrusion of men who claim to be women (or even genuinely believe they are women or believe that they have no gender) into spaces where women are vulnerable, and prevent the intrusion of male people into spaces and facilities where women need single sex provision to ensure our safety, privacy and dignity?

IcakethereforeIam · 02/04/2024 10:35

If he believes TWAW would he fu make sweet love to a TW?

endofthelinefinally · 02/04/2024 10:38

Donations from Ferring Pharmaceuticals?

That's a terrible non-answer.

I've had some success around 'the most vulnerable members of society' though: there was an absolutely shocking study done into women prisoners in Scotland a couple of years ago. Which begs the question, when it comes to women prisoners, WHO are the most vulnerable members of THAT society. Clue: not trans-identified men.

As a PPE grad he should know that catch all terms like 'most vulnerable in society' are not helpful at all.

Study link above, it makes for grim reading.

ResisterRex · 02/04/2024 11:08

Got to be the Staniland question, the Post Office, and Ferring.

The LDs get away with - and benefit from - flying under the radar. They were instrumental to these issues taking hold in the coalition and that shouldn't be forgotten.

That coalition experience is why I'd be very unhappy with any other coalition government, as we know that issues are easily buried (Post Office) or seen as fringe (women's rights, PBs) and that they aren't handled in the full glare of sunlight, allowing adverse effects to occur with ease.

peanutbuttertoasty · 02/04/2024 11:32

Why on earth should you ‘be gentle’ with a political leader who presumably wants to get his paws on actual power over our country? These people need holding to account in the strongest possible way.

peanutbuttertoasty · 02/04/2024 11:35

Ask him how he feels about blasphemy laws now being live in the UK

TWETMIRF · 02/04/2024 11:36

There are people such as Philip/Pips Bunce and Eddie/Suzy Izzard who sometimes feel like men and sometimes feel like women. Why would it be inappropriate for them to get naked in communal changing/showering facilities with women and girls on days when they feel like men but not when they feel like women? There are still many gyms/pools etc that do not have cubicles and communal changing is the only option.

What about if they were sent to prison, should they swap between the male and female estates as and when their gender changes? This could be on a daily basis.

Keeprejoining · 02/04/2024 11:39

I can't believe that you have been warned to be gentle with Ed Davey. It's "be kind " by another name. This is how they escape hearing what the electorate think. It never comes up in the doorstep, because everyone's been warned not to say anything that can cause hurty feelz.

SueBridehead444 · 02/04/2024 11:43

I know - I think it's hilarious that I have been asked to 'be gentle' to a senior politician!

SueBridehead444 · 02/04/2024 11:45

Thank you so much everyone for all your suggestions - I think I am going to go with the Staniland question and if I get a chance to follow up, ask him about his statement that women definitely can have a penis.

OP posts:
SueBridehead444 · 02/04/2024 11:45

And I will definitely come back and let you know how it goes!

Who asked you to be gentle? His staff?

JanesLittleGirl · 02/04/2024 11:49

Ask him what his greatest achievement was while he was a member of Cameron's government continuously from 2010 to 2015?
