Meeting Ed Davey - what to ask?

SueBridehead444 · 02/04/2024 07:01

I have an opportunity to meet Ed Davey, leader of the Lib Dems and believer of genderism, today.

What do I ask him to put him on the spot, that will be polite but to the point?

I'm worried that I will just waffle and not make my point clearly if I don't plan it in advance, so any help would be much appreciated!
TIA

Let see …. ‘’When are you going to resign!? You seem to struggle with simple questions like what is woman. As a leader you are as useful as a chocolate teapot and have charisma of a pot of paint.”

😁

JeannieDark · 02/04/2024 07:34

If you were in government would you bring in a Hate Crime Bill similar to the one that came into force in Scotland yesterday in England and Wales too?

EweCee · 02/04/2024 07:35

Why are you unwilling to protect 50.5% of the UK's constituent's rights and give those rights to 0.5% of the UK population instead?

Why are you not holding Kingston Council to task about the Kingfisher Pool debacle, the Cambridge Estate Regeneration, and the declining Council services dispite the extremely high council tax?

I'd love to say this but was warned to 'be gentle' with him 🤦 I said I would be polite!

If you were law enforcement in Scotland would you arrest JKR? If so why? What has she said that is hateful?

This.

As there are no requirements for a TW to medically transition in what situations does he think this can create problems? For example, in changing rooms where some level of nakedness is expected and not all have individual cubicles, what does he think would be the solution. Any other real world examples would be useful. It’s okay Davey saying some women have penises I’d want to know more about his opinion on the consequences for others of him having this belief.

Jacopo · 02/04/2024 07:54

Please come back and tell us what his answers are.

AthenaWhite · 02/04/2024 07:55

Does a teenage girl have a right to undress without any males present.

Ask him to back up any statements with facts, vulnerable minority etc.

leafinthewind · 02/04/2024 07:59

Do you get a short conversation, or just one question? If the latter, make your short elevator pitch first:

  • I'm here to talk about women's rights and spaces
  • Women have the right to organise their own spaces, and to exclude men from them. They may also choose to exclude natal males who identify as women. This isn't hateful or transphobic.
  • Some official government-funded spaces, such as prisons and hospital wards, usually separate men and women for reasons of privacy, dignity and safety. This should separate natal males who identify as women from the population of women. If in government, would you support women like me who want to maintain official women-only spaces like this?

Why did you refuse to engage with Alan Bates over the Post Office debacle when you were minister for the Post Office?

Brabican · 02/04/2024 08:16

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/feb/01/ed-davey-apologises-for-his-role-in-post-office-horizon-scandal

Took him a long time to apologise. He also accepted £275,000 as a consultant to the Post Office after he finished as a minister

faffadoodledo · 02/04/2024 08:20

Please report back OP. I will be voting LD at the GE just because I know and like our local candidate, and he is not on the same wavelength as his leader on matters of gender.
But I'd like to be able to chat to him about Davey when i next seee him.

WimpoleHat · 02/04/2024 08:23

Ed Davey’s degree was in PPE. So I’d approach it a bit like a university tutorial, I think - it’s gentle, but it can make the point quite well. Talk about rights. Rights can collide. Where trans rights collide with women’s rights, should they trump them? On what basis?

(He will no doubt do the “everyone’s lovely and we can all live happily together” line. Which is when you bring up some real examples of men who have used this to target vulnerable women/commit sex crimes etc.)

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 02/04/2024 08:24

I have let m'colleagues at the gender critical feminist group within the LDs know about this thread. They might come along with some suggestions or be willing to chat to you offline. Google Liberal Voice for Women and there should be some useful stuff on the website.

Brabican · 02/04/2024 08:30

Sub Post masters from his constituency who were convicted tried time after time to meet with him and he refused to see them.

Brabican · 02/04/2024 08:32

I think a sub post mistress is standing against him as a candidate in the General Election ( Kingston)

Brabican · 02/04/2024 08:37

Life isn't easy for him. He has a very difficult life. Both his parents died before he was 15. He has a son with SEND and a wife with MS.
However, that doesn't excuse his behaviour with regard to the Post Office

Rainbowshit · 02/04/2024 08:42

I'd ask him the Staniland question.

Meeting Ed Davey - what to ask?
IcakethereforeIam · 02/04/2024 08:53

MS is a horrible disease that i would not wish on my worst enemy. With Davey trousering all that cash from in post office (in addition to any other sources of money) I'm genuinely glad they have the cushion of wealth to help her.

Perhaps ask him if women and girls should be able to insist on single sex care, particularly intimate care? Should tw police/prison/customs officers be permitted to carry out intimate searches of women? And vice versa.

How well does he think self id is going in Spain? Perhaps check out the relevant thread first.

I'll stop now.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 02/04/2024 09:02

Is there a way to make and enforce a rule which allows trans women to enter women's single sex spaces such as toilets, changing rooms and rape crisis groups on a self ID basis, whilst preventing all male people who are a risk to women from entering them? If not, whose needs should be prioritised?

Is there a way to make women's single sex spaces such as toilets, changing rooms and rape crisis groups inclusive of both trans women who self ID as female, and women who need single sex spaces such as Muslims, Orthodox Jews or survivors of male violence who have PTSD? If not, whose needs should be prioritised?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 02/04/2024 09:03

What are you doing to stop children being taught that their growing bodies are flawed and can be fixed with a sex change?

Fenlandia · 02/04/2024 09:08

"Do you stand by your statement that there should be no places where a biological man cannot go, even women's single sex spaces?"

He said this in 2021 but I can't find a clip now as it was on a BBC news programme.

Good luck OP.

It's a great question but he can neatly side step it with well-worn phrases like "we have no plans at the moment" or "you'll have to wait for our manifesto for detailed policy".

Ask him if a woman can have a penis. That usually flummoxes Starmer.

Scratch my idea! In trying to find Fenlandia's quote, I came across several references saying Davey does believe that "quite clearly" women can have a penis. Dated 23.05.23.
It caused quite a kerfuffle with commentators, though. Might be worth repeating if your co-attendees need to be shown how Davey's brain works.
