Surprised to hear Peter Tatchell offered up to criticise the Act. Good questioning from Justin Webb of the Scottish Gov rep
Q “why weren’t women included?”
A “we needed to do more work”
Q “but you didn’t need to do more work did you?”

Why weren’t women included? Baffling!

How much more work do they need to do if they’ve been working on this since 2021?

Perhaps they feel they need an initial wave of NCHIs to have a sufficient chilling effect that there'll be no pushback when Baroness Helena TWAW Kennedy's report is produced. And we discover that anyone who says they're a woman are, and that's sufficient for a finding of misogyny.

Can you imagine being a dictionary editor and potentially having to update/rewrite the definition of “misogyny” to capture the absolute fuckwittery of the word now meaning “everybody” if the elusive, forever-in-the-pipeline Misogyny Bill becomes law in Scotland?

He was great.

I nearly fainted when Tatchell said women needed more protection, I wondered if he was about to say “April Fool”.

He probably meant the ones with penises.

I’d ask KJK. She seems to have nailed it 😉

PaterPower · 01/04/2024 22:16

JKR’s ‘challenge’ to Scots Police has just featured on the 10pm BBC News. Yuseless doing his usual “you’ve nothing to fear” soundbite.

If you weren’t as au fait with the situation as most on this board, then you’d not be much the wiser after watching that. Other than being told that mysogeny hasn’t been included and it’s feared it’ll have a chilling effect on free speech. The Beeb just can’t bring itself to properly discuss the issue.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 02/04/2024 00:03

It was on ch4 news. DS asked why they had barely mentioned such an important topic.

He’s on holidays from university and they can do short courses/lectures - one was on freedom of speech so this particularly caught his eye.

He said that in his essay on the topic he argued about the dangers of such legislation, and the nature (and danger) of those who want to control free speech/thought. He said he got a really good mark. Maybe unis are not totally lost after all (though he said the arts faculties are the worst).

She also said that they’ve been working on a “Misogyny Bill” since 2021 but wasn’t able to say why this bill couldn’t have been part of the new Act.

So when is this “Misogyny Bill” due to become law and why is it taking so long? Are they arguing over the definition of “woman”?

Definition of a woman? Ohh, soooooo tricksy that one isn’t it, look let’s just be fair to everyone not just the 50% of the population who don’t have a penis and say we don’t need to look in your knickers, we believe you.

ILikeDungs · 02/04/2024 00:33

Be careful what you wish for. You gotta know any "misogyny bill" will benefit the be-penised women, and no-one else, right?
